Atlus Working On Another High School RPG

By Spencer . December 1, 2009 . 2:07am

Atlus Working On Another High School RPG Despite the scan mentioning Persona, this game has nothing to do with Persona or Shin Megami Tensei. Tokyo Mono Hara Shi is related to the “Juvenile Gauken” or Tokyo Majin series, which Atlus seems to have picked up. Previous games were published by Marvelous and this will be the first Tokyo Majin game for the PSP.

Aside from the publisher, Tokyo Mono Hara Shi shares something in common with Persona. The story centers around cursed hanafuda cards. The sealed cards are the center of the game’s mystery and its up to a group of high school students to solve it. The game is an “adventure RPG” and the “adventure” part means it will have a lot of text. Other examples of “adventure games” include Infinte Loop and Idea Factory’s Otomate collection.

Tokyo Mono Hara Shi is due in stores this spring.

I hope this gets localized. >:O

  • Ereek

Don't count on that. We're still waiting for Growlanser. Atlus USA doesn't bring over everything their Japanese counterpart develops.

  • MisterNiwa

I, as consumer, demand it. >:(

  • 311

Well I as an avid Atlus supporter… WANT IT!!! lol

  • http://honorless.net honorless

Wow, the thumbnail made me think Tokyo Majin and I can't believe my guess was right.

Not interested in the game, though.

Sounded interesting untill it said for PSP :p

I just can´t get my hands on starting to play the games that I have on PSP. So once again I´ll be missing out on interesting titles since I think that if I buy a game I should play it, and if it is handheld then the chances of my playing it are very slim even if I do buy it :(

    But interesting game.

And as an avid anti-portable games guy, I hope it never comes stateside. Do not want these games getting anymore sales. Devs need to sotp wasting money and time on this stuff.

i actually forgot that Growlanser was already ported for PSP. you make me want that game to be localized…

  • wildarms

They are not bringing grownlanser just because they didnt sell as much as they though they would with the grownlancer they released for ps2, they dont think there will be profit in a game with not many fans, so they wont bring it. But this seems to be a “new” kind of is style, so we may have chances (though i want them to localize summon night X and luminous arc 3 more)

  • wildarms

Great!, Atlus games are mostly interesting, and i think the psp is the best portable console (badly treated in america, thanks piracy!) but in my opinion, othe opinion of a both DS and PSP user, the psp is just a perfect portable, i wish it had the selection of games it haves in japan.

PS: i am not saying DS is bad either, i really enjoy games there, but i just think psp is fairly superior

  • wildarms

never whine when a game is being released D:, even if im not able to play it, i like to know what is coming…, lol i accidentally pressed the “like” button instead of reply xD, oh well

  • http://www.twitter.com/christaran Chris Taran

I'll even it out with a like for you then even if we don't see eye to eye :)

And yeah, I'm being harsh with saying that. If it comes out, then I'm glad for those who will enjoy it. I just would rather see Atlus put money into the HD systems.

  • wildarms

lol xD yeah i also think they should start moving to the next generation fast D:, but who knows? maybe they are already making a shin megami tensei for the new gen

You post about LA3 and Summon Night in pretty much every ATLUS article, don't you? The reason Growlanser V didn't sell is because it's the worst in the series. If they had brought IV over, it would have done much better, at least review-wise, as it's one of the best. Growlanser I, the one ported to PSP, is either the best or second best, depending on who you talk to. I'd say more of a reason is that the PSP's piracy rate in North America is astronomical and many aren't particularly willing to release games.

But, really, ATLUS released Kenka Bancho, Growlanser has more of a devoted fanbase in North America than that does. I doubt “poor” sales of Growlanser V would stop them, there are likely other reasons.

If Atlus is involved then i guess there's countless demons to bash, right? xB
All i want is a very outragious story like SMT-Nocturne and the atmosphere like Persona^_^

I hope this game will bring me closer to that amusement.
But even if this game isn't as far as the game i hoped for,
i will import it from the US if this game will be localized.

  • wildarms

wait, summon night isnt directly made by Atlus, it just got translated by atlus. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Summon_Night_%28se…). And Luminous Arc is from marvelous i think.
And well, you know how atlus is, if they didnt sell well they just wont keep releasing it, but they are always up to release any random game they liked.
Oh and i brought grownlancer 5 and i liked it :P just in case xD, im no grownlancer hater. It seems atlus just made a bad choice, choosing wich one to release.

  • http://thestoppableforce.net/ Phil

I'm interested in it, but I know it'll never end up over here. Time to go back to staring longingly across the Pacific Ocean and brushing up on my moonspeak.

  • MisterNiwa

Wooow Chris, you are an crazy hater. 8(

  • cj_iwakura

It's not for lack of sales. Devil Summoner 3 sold badly, and we stil got 4. Growlanser PSP has coding issues that prevent localization, much like Devil Summoner PSP.

  • cj_iwakura

I wouldn't say that. Atlus USA are quick to grab games that they can compare to their other titles, like Dark Spire ~> Etrian Odyssey.

  • wildarms

But u are relating a big empire with a single caste, where the empire is the shin megami tensei (wich is for atlus what final fantasy is for square enix), is almost a must for them to release most of the SMT, while grownlancer only have 2 english version for us

  • http://www.siliconera.com Spencer

This may be even more difficult to bring over due to licensing issues since this is a branch off Tokyo Majin.

And… I always ask Atlus about Growlanser. :)

  • Zeik56

Growlanser isn't developed by Atlus, it's developed by Career Soft, Atlus just publishes it in Japan. Assuming this is an actual Atlus developed game, it's pretty much guaranteed to be localized.

  • wildarms

hehe, i think the 99,9% of the ppl that go to atlus's page does that, myself included xD

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Jackson-Kane-Fagan/768974368 Jackson Kane Fagan

That's almost entirely because Growlanser sucked and the sales were garbage. And if the sales were garbage back when the game's graphics and gameplay were somewhat tolerable, the sales would be even worse now.

This has a decent chance of coming here if it's not a bust in Japan.
Sorry to impede on your “I am the bearer of bad news I know so much about vidyass hurr durr” parade.
