Why Wasn’t Ju-On: The Grudge A Regular Survival Horror Game?

imageFeelplus, the studio behind Ju-On: The Grudge, had plenty of options with the Ju-On license. Instead of making something predictable, like a survival horror game, they went into the brave new world of haunted house simulators.

Why didn’t Feelplus make a traditional Ju-On game? We asked them.

“We had doubts of making a traditional horror game were the player goes and defeats the enemies to advance, especially in Ju-On,” said Makoto Chida, Project Manager at Feelplus. “During the development process, we tried implementing more puzzle-solving or actions elements but it actually made it too agile.

Interesting. I understand that having a family going Ghostbusters on the curse wouldn’t fit the story, but a puzzle packed version with more action elements may have had more appeal than a haunted house simulator. Check back tomorrow for the full interview with Chida.

Besides, I don’t think anyone actually survives the Ju-On movies.

Indeed, I’ve always thought that one of of the problems of the series, considering it kills everyone that has even the most minimal of contact, and everyone dies, why didn’t these ghosts kill everyone in Japan long ago? Or the world, for that matter.

Well considering Tokyo has been leveled in almost every Super Sentai and Godzilla movie, it is a wonder there is anybody left to die in Ju-On already. ;)

    • That’s true, the ghost or curse just takes it’s sweet time catching it’s victims! Not to mention all the deaths in each movie (Japanese and American) are pretty lame :/

Hmm… maybe we shouldn’t think too hard about this.

  • why didn’t anyone made a j horror game where u are the spirit who must curse someone, it would be a nice comedy game with lots of toon blood or a serious one where you must pass your curse to other souls so you will be freed…
