SNK is fueling Xbox Live Arcade with actual arcade games. Next year, NeoGeo Battle Coliseum, The King of Fighters 2002: Ultimate Match, KOF Sky Stage, and Metal Slug XX will be available as downloads.

OK, Metal Slug XX isn’t an “arcade” game. It’s a port of Metal Slug 7, which hits PSPs in Japan this December and Xbox Live Arcade next spring. Online enabled versions of KOF Sky Stage and a graphically enhanced version of NeoGeo Battle Coliseum are targeted for spring 2010 as well.

After those games, SNK will finish The King of Fighters 2002: Unlimited Match for Xbox Live. The revised and rebalanced version of The King of Fighters 2002 is slated for summer 2010. While these timelines have only been announced in Japan, SNK’s XBLA games arrive in North America and Europe simultaneously even if they’re not fully translated.

Considering how horrible the netcode was for Garou and ’98UM it’s hard to be excited. KoF2k2UM is probably my favorite fighting game that I can’t play online on any system, and if they can release it with real netcode I’d be willing to buy it as a full priced game. If it releases with the ’98 UM netcode for 800 MS points I’ll probably skip it.

Sky Stage maybe… if it’s any good. I already own the other games in other formats.

Whats stopping SNK from releasing these games on PSN?

i hate to sound like a broken record, but SNK’s insistence on smoothing filters roughly equivalent to vaseline on the lens and crappy high-contrast wallpapers have kept me from buying any of their XBLA titles. i really want to play the vertical shooter, but if they maintain their track record of lousy presentation, i’ll have to take a pass again.
