Next Sunsoft Announcement Not Albert Odyssey (We’re Thinking Too Small)

By Spencer . December 7, 2009 . 6:45pm

imageGaijinworks head honcho Vic Ireland is teasing a big announcement related to the Sunsoft revival. I sent him an e-mail about it, but couldn’t get any details or extra hints. (We tried!)

Ireland, however, posted another clue on the Sunsoft forum where he said, “Everyone is thinking too small (and it’s not Albert Odyssey for this one). This is a macro move – sweeping in scope for the fanboy in us all.”

image That sounds more grandiose than Sunsoft. Any revised guesses?

Speaking of Albert Odyssey, Sunsoft re-trademarked the term and logo in Japan on August 26, 2009.

  • So cryptic, yet upfront. He’s clearly enjoying this little teasing game…

My expectations are high, this better be something HUGE as promised.

    • Kris

Agreed, when he said Albert Odyssey is thinking too small, I got psyched.
Maybe a Galaxy Fight/Waku Waku 7/Astra Superstars collection?

      • I was thinking the same thing. I could totally get behind something like that. ^_^

  • Mazen

It will be a 3d Mr. Gimmick for PS3
man what a great music that game have, yes this will be so huge.

    • Yeah the soundtrack was fantastic, but why are there so few sound effects?!

      • Mazen

Interesting I think this guy is using an emulator or something, I played the game it have sound effect for everything.

  • lordgeo

Hmm… Looks like Data East X Sunsoft is becoming all the more possible now.

  • bubbba123

Now I really have no idea. A franchise reboot on a home console? I’d be impressed by that…

  • JeremyR

Getting excited by anything he says is a sure way to be disappointed.

I mean, since WD folded and he founded his new company, they’ve done a whopping one game – Miami Law (remember that? Probably not)

    • Trotmeister

I agree, Ireland’s way past his prime. This whole Sunsoft resurrection thing is ridiculous.

      • Past his prime, hilarious. I’m not even in fanboy mode here, but he can do whatever the xxxx he wants, you know? There’s always room for one more niche publisher, if that’s what’s going to happen (and I think it might, we gotta think LARGE apparently).

If Friday’s announcement is anything less than a megaton, then you can call his career off. Until then, benefit of the doubt should be given. We’ll see what three years of virtual hype amounts to.

    • Hey, what’s wrong with Miami Law? I happen to like it. =P If there is one thing about WD, it was that they always took their time. I’m fine with that. Especially in this (and next) year of companies pumping out piles of games. It’d be nice for some of them to take their time.

  • The “macro move – sweeping in scope” thing might mean something, but I have no idea.

  • If it’s ‘macro move’, I’m putting stock into it being several games mentioned instead of just one…

…then again we can all wait til Friday to figure it out.

  • thebanditking

Glad its not as cut and dry as people thought. I am hoping for a full merger the Sunsoft titles and any/all Working Designs rights Vic still has to be a part of this announcement, I am really hoping they can get Alundra 1 up on the PSN over here along with Lunar 1 and 2. Other then that I can’t wait to see what else they are working on. I just hope its not a DS RPG, if there is one thing there does not need to be any more of its DS RPG’s.

  • i thought about a super cross ovr, but the only games i remember from sunsoft when as a child is albert odyssey and a looney toon game starring “pernalonga” i forgot the name in english of “hey old folks” rabbit

  • I was thinking I’d even settle for something like Panorama Cotton, so I’ll basically take any announcement; just want to know already! =p
