By Spencer . December 8, 2009 . 6:44pm

sw1Sakura Wars’ long journey to North America is almost over. NIS America will release Sakura Wars: So Long, My Love on the Wii and PlayStation 2 in February 2010.

The box art on the right is the packaging for the regular version. Below is the box art for the premium version which has two dual layer DVDs, one for English and the other for Japanese voice acting.

Ugh, February. It is going to be a completely unproductive month for me. There’s too much! Well, I’ll order it when it’s up on RQ.

  • Kris

Wow, The first few months of 2010 are going to be packed!

  • Eddie

I have never played these games…. Are they any good? I am always up for adding classics to my wonderful ps2! I still play blitzball. (that was random I know, but darn ronso’s always renew their player contracts……….. =.=)

    • kupomogli

I love Blitzball. Honestly the only thing good from FF10.

Back on topic though. Sakura Wars? No thanks. There are plenty of other tactical RPGs that are better out there, a lot that have some good replay value. If it was something that looked absolutely amazing then I’d be all for it, but the gameplay videos make this game look incredibly boring.

There’s a lot to love about the game, really. The visual novel style adventure part of the game lends to a lot of replay value, since you can answer branching dialogues a ton of different ways, become closer to certain characters, etc.

The battles are actually pretty epic. None of them are short; think Valkyria Chronicles for the PS3, but with more robots. In a way, it sort of balances out the two different segments, since as soon as you get tired of talking, it’s time to fight. As soon as you get tired of fighting, it’s time to relax again.

I think it’s paced pretty well. And, believe it or not, that’s totally objective. I’m talking as a gamer to a gamer, here.

      • Eddie

        gotcha

  • Simon

i know the PS2 version is priced cheaper.. so that version has both jap and english? while the 10$ more wii one doesnt?

    • http://www.nisamerica.com NickyD

      Is it opposite day?

      • Simon

LOL if u mean my 10$ .. i just like to type what i think.. to me 10$ is like 10 dollars

        • http://www.nisamerica.com NickyD

Oh no, I meant the Wii vs PS2 prices… have those been formally announced?

          • Simon

i just checked how amazon, ebgames, and gamestop priced it. they should be right

          • http://www.nisamerica.com NickyD

Hmmkay. I guess they’d know better than me. Just remember this conversation next week! It’s a promise.

          • Simon

alright.. haha I’ll wait and see what happens.. hold my questions till next week

    • jj984jj

What makes you think that? They’re both the same, Idea Factory doing the Wii port should be the only difference.

      • Simon

Ohh lol.. the wording of the news i guess.. saying the bottom PS2 box art one is the premium set with 2 disc.. and there is a picture of a wii one with a different cover which is regular.. so i just assumed that one wasnt premium therefore it does not have 2 disc.. i guess.. i jumped to conclusions + cause i was interested in the game i always search for the game on EB site to see if any update on cover art and price and there is only PS2 vs Wii version.. so assumed further the PS2 is premium version and wii is regular

        • jj984jj

Maybe the Wii only has 1 SKU? I’d wait for more details. It could have more to do with the pricing than Wii having only one language track disk. Could be wrong, I am getting this on PS2 since I doubt Idea Factory will do a good job with the port. I guess it’d be a no-brainer if it’s also a cut version.

  • http://whatistheexcel.com/ Excel-2012

Why do they always feel the need to highlight the aggressiveness of the main characters on the cover?

    • http://denpanosekai.blogspot.com denpanosekai

What’s wrong with that? IT GETS OUR BLOOD BOILING!!!!!!!!!!!!

      • http://whatistheexcel.com/ Excel-2012

        Maybe I don’t want to.

    • http://twitter.com/matty_125 matty

To show that the heroes have some oomph in an RPG?
I’ve always wondered about that myself, actually. I like the energy expressed in characters in promo art, but covers like Fragile and Ico (JPN) have such …I don’t know the word, but they’re unique in their own way.

  • nyoron

    Cautiously optimistic!

  • Wraithtek

The official site shows regular edition cover art for Wii and PS2, but premium edition cover art only for PS2. Will the premium edition be PS2 only?

  • http://twitter.com/ravenschwann Tim Nguyen

The premium box art reminds me of the art from Tales of games. Is there a connection or just similar art?

    • Kris

      Good eye!
Kosuke Fujishima did art for the Sakura Wars series as well as someTales games. He also did Oh My Goddess.

      • Strike_Man

Looks like I was a little too slow in posting. :p

    • Strike_Man

The character designs are from the same artist, Kosuke Fujishima (you may also recognize his work from Ah! My Goddess and You’re Under Arrest). That reason alone is enough to get me to purchase this title.

I’m also going to echo the comments that posted above this. Will the Wii version, despite its $10 price premium, only come with the English dubbed game while the PS2 gets both the Japanese and English discs?

  • http://www.themogblog.com/ Edward Walton

So basically the PS3 Premium is a 2 Disc Set with both disc being the same game but one has English Dialogue and the other Japanese. >.> Anyone else see this as a first? Odd this has to be done when PS2 is approaching the end of its cycle and Gamestop is trying to clear out all PS2 games the end of the year.

    • mooncalf

Since it’s a PS2 title to begin with it would cost very little to release it on PS2 in addition to the Wii port, even if they felt the bulk of the sales would be on the Wii version. The cost would have lain with the translation and voice acting.

Any word on enhancements for the Wii version over PS2? I’m inclined to just get the PS2 version since I still have mine hooked up (sooo many rpgs to still finish) and platform ports typically bring slowdown/unoptimisation of some sort.

  • http://www.nisamerica.com NickyD

    February, hmm? I heard differently.

    • http://www.siliconera.com Spencer

Please share! ;) The e-mail from Nao said February.

      • http://www.nisamerica.com NickyD

I may be wrong, though… Haha it’s been rather hectic lately. I’m sure you’ll learn why soon enough!

        • Ereek

You’re such a horrible person, teasing us like that.

          But we love you anyway.

          • http://www.siliconera.com/ Ishaan

Can you believe he was lazing around in bed a while ago instead of slaving away overnight at his work PC? The nerve of some people.

          • Ereek

            No!

Someone needs to break out the whip.

  • Xien12

I liked the original JPN box.

  • http://twitter.com/matty_125 matty

Nice! I don’t think I have anything going on in February, so this will bide for me quite well.

  • http://www.ukanime.com abigsmurf

Anyone know if the PS2 version is coming out in the UK? If there’s little difference between the two formats I’d rather play the PS2 one.

    • http://www.youtube.com/user/xxHiryuuxx Hiryuu

NISAinEurope’s Twitter says they’re aiming for March.

      • Xeahnort

        @ abigsmurf & Hiryuu
I asked NISA a few days ago. They said the PS2 version won’t be published in Europe. I think we will only have the Wii version.

        • http://pt-pt.facebook.com/people/Lyh-Scully/613703032 Lyh Scully

oh great «« thnaks alot «« ……… and i was really looking foward to this , why cant europeans have it shish ««

  • http://www.youtube.com/user/xxHiryuuxx Hiryuu

Better February than March like Europe is getting (based on what their Twitter account says).

If it was March, this title would be doomed.

  • http://otoboku.se manga

If I even want a slight chance to get all the nice titles that are starting to appear I need to find a job so I can get some money.

This is a must buy title. So I can see how this series is.

  • Rol

Thank goodness I say. It gives me ~30 days to beat Mass Effect 2 before I start on this game.

  • http://www.younganimal.com/berserk Mr_Qoo

I thought when I pre-ordered it, it stated January. Guess I was wrong! That gives some time to beat ME2 but it challenges some Heavy Rain time! :(

  • http://thrust-the-sky.deviantart.com/ WildArms

Wth!? it was january first, then nisa got the main page and said winter 2009/2010 wich makes feel most probably around january… but february D:!? it felt they were almost done… darn there goes my hope to get that game soon… i was going to bring some games from the US at january 25…. *cries on a corner* who knows when i will be able to get that game *sniff* this is the only reason im sad for not living in the US or close to it at least D: such a problem to bring games here… or even buy them here with a rational price. *sigh*

    • cj_iwakura

GameStop’s preorder says 01/04/2010. Here’s to positive thinking!

      • http://thrust-the-sky.deviantart.com/ WildArms

lol but at the end, NISA is the one who decides xD

  • http://soundcloud.com/tet-chan TetsuyaHikari

Even an awesome PS2 title is releasing in the same period as all those crazy PS3 games! I know this is probably going to sell horribly because of that, but I’ll still get this, lol. I just know 2010 is going to be a busy year for a gamer!

  • Devonian

strange, Amazon said it was coming out at the end of March.

I’m hoping this one is the right one, and someone fills Amazon in…
