Survey Says Europe’s Favorite Video Game Character Is Mario

By Spencer . December 8, 2009 . 10:39am

image According to a report from YouGov, an Internet focused market research company, Mario is Europe’s most popular video game character. Everyone’s favorite goomba stomping plumber beat out Sonic the Hedgehog, Master Chief, Pac-Man, and UK heroine Lara Croft.

YouGov’s research also notes the majority of Europe’s survey respondents recognized Mario’s soundtrack.

Nintendo is pleased with the result and in Europe they’re using the news to push New Super Mario Bros. Wii.

I’m actually a little surprised since I got the impression from reviews and fan collections that Sonic was still all the rage in Europe or at least in the UK.

Well, just yesterday, I did noticed a Sonic shirt and hat at a local Target.

yes, Sonic was also big in club/rave culture in the early 90s I believe. Anyway, he was on some fliers. So, that always gave me the impression he was huge out there too but perhaps Wii’s popularity brought Mario on top.

It’s not funny anymore when you correct your typos, you know? :(

Anyways, I should start a market research firm.
