Castlevania: Rondo of Blood Dancing To Virtual Console

imageKonami passed on publishing the TurboGrafx CD version of Castlevania: Rondo of Blood overseas in the 90’s. Richter and Maria’s vampire hunting adventure finally came to North America as Castlevania: The Dracula X Chronicles, a 2.5D PSP remake.

It also included the original game, fully localized, as a bonus. Perhaps, that will be the base for the upcoming Virtual Console version. Australia’s OFLC just rated Castlevania: Rondo of Blood with Nintendo as the publisher, putting it in the top secret chest with future Virtual Console games.

Hopefully, Konami will do a little ROM hacking and utilize the translation they made instead of just throwing the Japanese Virtual Console data online. Look for Castlevania: Rondo of Blood in 2010?

  • Yay, can never have too many Castlevania games, ports or otherwise. =)

  • I never picked up the PSP port, so this could be a must-get on the Wii.

How did Nintendo handle the translation in those “Import” virtual console titles in North America? (those existed, right? I don’t have a Wii to check)

But yeah, both versions of Rondo of Blood was run to play on my PSP. It’d been a while since I actually had to put work into trudging through a game with the difficulty level from the 8- and 16-bit era.

    • Most of them aren’t translated. Sin & Punishment had English menus as an option so Nintendo set those as default and got rid of the subtitles.

Super Mario Brothers 2/Lost Levels has a semi-new title screen.

If Rondo of Blood is in English it will sort of be the first fully translated Virtual Console import. The “sort of” part is in there since Konami didn’t translate it for Virtual Console.
