Nintendo DS Dragon Ball Game Includes Emulated Dragon Ball Game

imageDragon Ball DS 2 Assault! Red Ribbon Army is truly a throwback to the 80’s with young Goku as the star and a Famicom game as a bonus.

Namco Bandai hid Dragon Ball: Shen Long’s Mystery, better known as Dragon Power in North America, as a extra. When Bandai released Dragon Power here it was heavily localized and all references to the anime series were dropped. Instead of Goku, a generic looking “Karate Kid” was the star and he went on a journey to collect crystal balls.

Namco Bandai Games America hasn’t announced Dragon Ball DS 2 yet. Since it’s a Dragon Ball game chances are it will come over, but will the North American version include Dragon Power, a faithful translation of the Famicom game or will they cut the ROM out?

    Oh it is so cut.

I mean, since they’d have to localize the main event anyway, slapping an English script on the Famicom game would be a quickie! It wouldn’t be the first time a heavy Americanization was undone years after the fact.

…But my money’s on “No.” Maybe I’m just jaded from seeing so many awesome opportunities passed on over here.

  • I actually still have my copy of dragon power, a pretty fun game it is, even if it’s censored up the ying-yang.

Hope this makes it in. Doesn’t matter what version as long as it gets in.

Can’t imagine there is a lot of text to the Famicom game. The no-effort solution of just including the US Rom is the most likely, but maybe they go the extra mile.

Very cool, I wish they would include the later Dragonball RPGs on the Famicom other than Shenlong no Nazo (w/ saves instead of copying passwords), that would be a trip down the memory lane. The art is very nice!
