Namco Bandai Plotting An “Odyssey To The West” Like most Japanese developers, Namco Bandai is in the Western expansion party. We just didn’t imagine they would trademark it, though.

 

Namco Bandai registered the rights to Odyssey to the West in the USA. While this could be some kind of slogan for their US studio, it looks like another video game subtitle to me. A game called Odyssey to the West on its own just doesn’t sound right. If it’s a subtitle it must be connected to another, already trademarked Namco Bandai franchise.

 

Dragon Ball: Odyssey to the West? Idolm@ster: Journey to the West? Wait… that almost sounds like it could work.

    Well this is certianly interesting, i dont think its a game so it could be like some sort of company marketing gaming series like you mentioned.

    Im kind of whatever on this, i dont care what they do just so long as they bring God Eater to the west.

    Not gonna happen, but it would be cool if it were their English title for Legend of Heroes VI: Sora no Kiseki.

    But not completely impossible. Bandai did do the first three games, and while their translation resembled an early Atlus effort (ie, bad, not inserting stereotypes), it was better than no games at all.

    Sounds like Saiyuki (as in Reload) to me. Of course, a Son Goku is in that as well, so Dragon Ball is also possible.

    From the Oct '09 issue of Game Informer… “Enslaved's narrative recalls the famous Chinese children's novel Journey to the West by Chinese poet Wu Cheng'en.”

    … sounds like we may be looking at Enslaved: Odyssey to the West.
