Ogre Battle 64 Destined For Virtual Console

By Spencer . December 28, 2009 . 11:55pm

image One of the rarer Nintendo 64 games is coming to Virtual Console. Next month, Japan gets Ogre Battle 64.

Published by Nintendo in Japan and Atlus in North America, this Quest developed game is a direct sequel to Ogre Battle: The March of the Black Queen. Back then Quest was an independent studio. Now, Quest is part of Square Enix. Not sure if this will affect a domestic release of Ogre Battle 64 or not. Square Enix and Atlus have a relationship since the Final Fantasy studio published Odin Sphere and Persona 4 in Europe.

In addition to Ogre Battle 64 these are the Virtual Console games on Japan’s slate for January 2010.

Super Famicom
Kirby’s Star Stacker

I don’t think Ogre Battle 64 is as rare in Japan as it is in the US. At Super Potato in Akihabara they had quite a lot of brand new copies for something like 500 yen, maybe even cheaper.

I would like to see it on the US VC though, never had a chance to play it.

One of my favorite games on the 64, and the only real RPG (good; there were what 2..). Great game, I beat it every which way possible, several times over. I’m still pissed I sold my copy back when I was a stupid child. Probably going to have to repurchase a physical copy sometime..

I would love to see what this does for the muddy graphics in the game… I’d be willing to re-buy it if it gets upscaled well enough.
