Gran Turismo 5 Hits Roadblock, Won’t Make March Release

By Spencer . January 13, 2010 . 1:09am

gtba Sony Computer Entertainment Japan initially pegged Gran Turismo 5 for March 2010. Today, SCEJ announced a delay and a “TBA” release date.

The terse press release apologizes and says Sony will announce a new release date for Japan in the future. Multiple retailers had Gran Turismo 5 scheduled for March 25 just last week, which also happens to be God of War III’s confirmed release date for Japan.

Gran Turismo 5 has 1,000 cars, online play, car damage, and YouTube uploading. It’s unclear if Polyphony Digital will add more content during the delay.

This is getting ridiculous. I refuse to believe it’s for technical problems (not after 5 years), so I’m going to guess it’s just a marketing decision.Any reason why they would want to avoid a March release in Japan?

Well, given the amount of workflow going into these games it’s fair to say if the developers didn’t have time limits… the game would never be ready.

It’s not about technical dificulties, but making the best out of the limited available time. They probably had problems along the way and their schedule got delayed, or it’s a delay for the better good of the game just the same. Not excusing them here, but…

Gran Turismo is turning out to be like the Duke Nukem of the East. GT Portable had its problems, too…

Remember when GT4 Came out on the PS2? It was leaps and bounds better than all other sim racers at that time graphically and technically. The problem with GT5 is It has some real competition on its hands with games and games are starting and now up to par with realness and graphics so it better stop pushing back the date or people will (and already have) started not to care for it anymore.

“Remember when GT4 Came out on the PS2? It was leaps and bounds better than all other sim racers at that time graphically and technically.”

It also came out in 3 years.

GT5 will need to be some thousands miles away from reality, to justify these 6 years of making.
