I can't comment on the rest of the series.

My impression of 2 goes something like this:
Sure, this is nice. A bit hard, but I blame my own stupidity for not creating a Healer until my fourth recruited character. It got easier once I did that.
Oh, this is fun!
. . .
. . .
Oh, I died?
. . .
You mean I have to walk all the way back through four huge field areas with respawning enemies to get back to the same place I was at, just to die again?
. . .
How annoying.

But my main argument against the game doesn't really exist anymore since they added warp points. I'd say the best way I could describe it is by saying it's a "semi-WRPG." There are a lot of side quests, large areas, locked boxes that you need a Thief for, etc. etc.. I used a comparison to FFXI up there mostly because that's how the game felt to me. The atmosphere and the battles both.

Battles are not turn-based but were rather chaotic for the amount of time I played (10 hours or so). The game plays pretty much every class better than you can and battles are quite fast. It's strange to actually be complaining about -good- AI! Really, when people say "FFXII plays itself," VK2 is actually a good deal worse.

Well, first I've only played 2. It also supports free 2P online co-op, and the box is pretty ripped off of MH3's. :P

There are warp points in Eldar Saga as well, but for a price of like 1500 bucks or something.

Eldar Saga is probably the most MH-like in the series, as you play with one character fighting monsters in real-time out in the open.
