This Is A Dungeon RPG From The Makers Of Disgaea

By Spencer . January 22, 2010 . 9:40pm

Nippon Ichi’s Disgaea team are dabbling with a PSP dungeon RPG called Zettai Hero Kaizou Keikaku. In the game you explore randomly generated maps with a highly customized hero.

Seems like Zettai Hero Kaizou Keikaku has a touch of Disgaea-style humor too. This trailer shows “last battles” in the style of Dragon Quest and Final Fantasy where the hero dies.

How many parts did you notice? Did you catch the stat building system? You can boost your hero by placing pieces on a grid shaped like a person. It’s almost feels like the license grid with blank spaces.

Zettai Hero Kaizou Keikaku is slated for March 11 in Japan and so far NIS America hasn’t said anything about a release in North America.

A hat tip and drill arm to Denpa no Sekai for sending us the video. Thanks!!

This game spells a-w-e-s-o-m-e! Character customization is one of the main reasons I play RPG's and this seems to take that to a new level. Plus it's Disgaea(Phantom Brave and Makai Kingdom too..)-style, which spells s-o-a-w-e-s-o-m-e-I-d-o-n-'t-k-n-o-w-w-h-a-t-t-o-d-o!

I'll probably get it for the over-the-top special attacks. And I just like roguelikes in general. Awesome.

  • TokyoGuy

I though that Nippon Ichi already had a dungeon crawler in the works, that retro-themed game?

  • malek86

This is so going to be mine. When are we getting a NISA announcement?

  • MikeLXXXVIII

Nippon Ichi are so awesome! I am ashamed to say I have yet to play the Prinny game. This looks like a must buy :)

  • wildarms

    coooool!

  • Gestahl

That other retro-themed dungeon crawler is being outsourced by Nippon Ichi to System Prisma (who did the Phantom Brave Wii and Disgaea DS for NIS). The two games are both dungeon crawlers but Zettai Hero is turn-based and Classic Dungeon is real time.

  • jj984jj

Or more specifically Zettai Hero is rogue-like. Very much looking forward to this one.

I want to go to there.

  • BlueBlazer

I always buy games with cool eyecandy special attacks:P
too bad I just gave my PSP to my twin in exchange for his DS(after having a PSP for 1 year I realized my stupidity of not buying a DS)

Is it? The only roguelike elements I've seen in this game so far are the randomized dungeons. Otherwise it looks like a typical NIS “S”RPG.

(Well, all of their games in this vein seem to have some sort of randomly generated dungeons, so that part's typical too…)

  • eliel

0_o is it turn base or real time im not sure even after watching the trailer….

  • LastFootnote

It's definitely much closer to a roguelike than an SRPG. If you watch the trailer carefully, you can see that there's only ever one character that you control and that enemies move when you move and stop when you stop.

  • http://honorless.net honorless

Enemies move in that manner in Etrian Odyssey as well.

It's closer to one than most NISRPGs, sure. But I have yet to see anything like permadeath, hunger, or items that require identification…so with my limited knowledge of the game, I definitely wouldn't consider it a roguelike.

Is that Norio Wakamoto (Johnny/Guilty Gear, Chiyo-Dad/Azumanga) as the announcer, or is it just my crazy ears?
I like the new character art. Harada is great, but this is bit refreshing.

  • TheCleaningGuy

Wow, that really does sound like him!

I don't know about permadeath, but there's an “EN” gauge that seems to be a replacement for “hunger” and you'll croak if it reaches zero (seen vaguely in the video).

I'm sure there's identification as well. In any case, it's definitely an old-school dungeon crawl in the vein of stuff maybe less like rogue and more like those Izuna DS games. Except Disgaea-fied.

    Hey Nick, tell your boss I will buy this. Sales += 1;

  • http://denpanosekai.blogspot.com denpanosekai

Nippon Ichi have used him in their trailers for as long as I can remember.

  • http://honorless.net honorless

Hmm. Well, consider my interest piqued. :)
