Dragon Quest VI Commercial Is A Blast From The Past

By Spencer . January 25, 2010 . 1:37am

A decade and a half ago, in other words the dark ages on the video game timeline, Enix hired actors to cosplay Dragon Quest characters for TV ads.

Their commercial for the Dragon Quest VI: Realms of Reverie remake is a throwback to those days. Take a look.

Gotta love the traditional Toriyama hairdo! That’s missing from the 1995 commercial which has a Link lookalike as the hero.

ah, when DQ was still by Square’s nemesis Enix.. The mohawk was better in 95. Is that French or some other language, I was always curious why they didn’t use English, maybe even more exotic.

    • Jaxx-Leviathan

Hm, might be wrong, but I think they’re speaking in spanish… heh, the new one barely qualifies as a mohawk, the old one really stands up firmly.

      • Tokyo Guy

I wouldn’t be surprised if it was Brazilian people speaking Spanish, especially if it was filmed in Japan. There are TONS of Brazilians here.

awsome lol XD will get it eventualy! i still have tons of Ds games to play ….. O_O anD errr most of them are all from sqeenix …

    • Joanna

ditto. But I think most of mine are from Atlus XD

  • Jaxx-Leviathan

Oh wow… the acting in the new one is really bad, so lifeless and uninteresting. Haven’t played the game before so just curious, does that girl-sitting-on-barrel-scene actually happen in-game? Just seems confusing for an outsider. And mohawk-guy is charging at empty air appearently.

They’ve been doing real actor ads for every major DQ release except DQ9 which didn’t have set characters. They’re immensely popular :D The recent DQ5 one was great, too.

Hahahahaha that’s awesome!!!! You can tell it was filmed in Spain because the actors have that spanish accent when they talk. Cool commercial overall.

    I’ll traduce this:

    barrel escene:
    guy-quien es?=who is it?
    girl-voy contigo=I’ll go with you

mohawk guy-esto se llama artes marciales=this is called martial arts
or it could be: esto es un sueño de artes marciales=this is a dream for martial arts

    so that’s it:P

    yay
    dragon quest es latino =D

Does anyone remember the commercial for the original Mother game? That was equally amusing.

      I think you’re referencing this gem: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yQUN7QAnMp0

Indeed I am! That is such a classic commercial. It reminds me of the commercials for Zelda (or was it Zelda 2) with the Princess saying “Link, Link, Link” and Link wandering through a maze.
