DSiWare Fighting Game With Camera Created Characters Coming Stateside?

By Spencer . February 5, 2010 . 9:32am

image Nintendo made a game that uses the Nintendo DSi’s camera to create characters called Photo Fighter X last year. Seems like Nintendo will bring it to other regions under the name Photo Dojo.

You start Photo Fighter X or Photo Dojo by taking pictures in different poses and picking a fireball. This guy’s fireball is a giant fist, but you can create whatever you want. Then you can bring your photo fighter into a side-scrolling beat ‘em up or fight a photo friend in versus mode. This isn’t a Street Fighter replacement, but Photo Fighter X is a neat toy to play with.

And Australia might be creating photo fighters soon since the OFLC rated Photo Dojo with Nintendo as the publisher.

Photo Dojo is a clever title.

    Everybody was photo-fighting
Those cats were fast as lightning
In fact it was a little bit frightning
But they fought with expert timing

Why am I reminded of all of those awful photorealistic fighting games of the mid-90s?

I hope you aren’t referring to Mortal Kombat with its live-action actors… :(

You won’t believe how many MK knockoffs were “inspired” by the actor-action fighting: Tattoo Assassins, Blood Warrior, Survival Arts, Kasumi Ninja, Battle Monster, Street Fighter: The Movie …….THE GAME.

Go ahead and look those up. I DARE you! I can only hope the unspeakable horror you’re about to witness won’t turn you mad like a character from a Lovecraft story.

I was referring to all of those (all of which don’t deserve to be mentioned in the same sentence as Mortal Kombat). In particular, Way of the Warrior. I defy you to look that one up and then wonder how Naughty Dog came such a long way since. It makes Survival Arts look like Street Fighter II.

Wow, I had no idea Naughty Dog used to work on fighting games. You guys amaze me with your knowledge sometimes!

I promise to look those up this week. Might even try one just out of curiosity…

If you have to play any one of those, I recommend Tattoo Assassins. Many purveyors of this kind of thing name Tattoo Assassins as the worst fighting game ever, but I believe most of them have not played or even seen the other choices. Sure, it plays as bad as it looks, but at least has a sense of humor, which is more than can be said of the other Mortal Kombat wannabes.
