Final Fantasy XIII On Xbox 360 Has “Game Content Downloads”Gamestop captured the back of Final Fantasy XIII’s Xbox 360 box, which has bullet points about the game’s features.

 

Let’s see… it supports one player, saves take up 4MB, and apparently has “game-content download.” Interesting! That sounds like confirmation that Final Fantasy XIII will have some kind of downloadable content. I hope we get something better than Cloud costumes for Lightning and emergency potion packs.

    What are you talking about? The only other game that has 6 playable characters is 12, the rest have more. 10 has 7, 9 has 8, 8 has 8 I beleive, 7 has 10! How is 6 stale? Would you rather 2? Or 19? Or what?

    Stop trying to make up a reason to complain, or at least have a real reason.

    I'm still really hoping for some way to optionally download the other discs to the hard drive then run off of disc 1 or something. Honestly, everyone's big complaint with the 360 version is multi-discs. This would be such an easy solution to fixing that. =

    ok dlc …. now i wonder if its things that are on japanese version and not on EU/US one …. but alas im gald ill be able to compare … also wonder if its gonna be 360 only … wait n see XD

    You could do the install for all 3 discs, but you still need the actual game disc to be in there recognized by the system. Otherwise everyone could just rent the game, install it, and return it.

    If it's indeed game-related DLCs, I think it would come to PS3 as well. They couldn't be referring to the character themes that are unlocked by the trophies right?

    I wonder what zoo they're talking about, there is kinda one alrdy in the theme park (there are sheeps and chocobos, though you can't interact much w/ them), I thought that was one of the cutest areas and the game could certainly use more of that. The PS3 trophies (hard ones) unlock PS3 themes, so I'm not sure if they're talking about premium themes for the 360. Not sure how I feel about game related DLCs, got both Jpn/US ver. of the game alrdy and don't feel like paying more. I'm curious about the traditional Chinese version just announced as well…

    Actually I thought the biggest complaints were the lower res textures, graphics, and compressed audio and video. The number of discs is just a silly fanboy jab.

    Did you order the FF13 OST too? I got mine in the mail this week, though I never listen to an OST before playing the game (makes the songs have a bit of meaning).

    I did, pre-ordered it when P-A had the 10% off music CDs a while back. Usually takes me ~2 wks to rec it.

    Definitely shouldn't listen to the soundtrack before playing the game. To be honest, I actually wanted to cancel the order after I played the game because I just couldn't “feel” it, but then it's only $50 and might get rare later, plus I want the episode 0 drama CD. I wish Uematsu could've worked on this like he did on FFX. I can't help but feel Hamauzu wasn't very well used in Sigma Harmonics or here. No wonder he's parting ways w/ S-E.

    Yeah, sounds about right though I wager I'll buy it at $20 and then stick it on The Shelf of Misfit Games, never to be played.

    I knew it! One of the reasons they cut out so much content is so they could stick it to us with pricey DLC!

    And you know? I don't even blame Square for this. They're just trying to make a profit. I blame the millions of people who will buy all the DLC regardless of how much it costs.

    The only thing wrong with DLC is when companies specifically cut content out of games to sell to us later. There isn't anything wrong with content made in the future as DLC, however, as long as it's worth the price.

    Thanks to the hard working mailman, I just got it! I was on my way to the mailbox and his truck drove past me and he handled it to me personally :).

    Wow, the package is big and awesome, really good value, I'm glad I kept it. The artbook is great, w/ liner notes, CG arts, and Amano illustration. They even have a script for the Episode Zero drama CD, now I can listen to it and read along, would be nice if they did all 3 chapters instead of 1 (the other two on the Jpn FF XIII website. Even though I'm not crazy about the chars, I like the seiyuu cast, hopefully I would at least get to like the game more by the end after soaking in the soundtrack and finishing the game.

    It won't be 360 only, the majority of Final Fantasy XIII's install base will be on the PS3, so 360 – exclusive DLC would be a bit of a backwards strategy.

    It's not exactly a compression algorythm. It's a proprietary video format, one of the de-facto standards in the gaming industry. Though people complain it's not very good.

    It's actually been used on many PS3 games too. It doesn't seem to have a fixed video quality: for example, Darksiders' cutscenes look better on PS3 than on 360, despite both being Bink.

    Actually, the PS3 version's video is compressed too. Just less. Technically speaking, real “uncompressed” 1080p videos takes about 130MB/s, if you want to have 24FPS videos, that is.

    Audio on the other hand is really uncompressed, if your receiver supports it, while it will be limited to DD5.1 on the 360. Though this was necessary anyway, regardless of the DVD size limit, because the 360 can't process anything more than DD5.1 for videogames, so yeah.

    Of course, these are all technicalities: for all intent and purposes, the PS3 version's videos are “uncompressed”. On par with a BR movie, I guess. I wouldn't mind knowing the bitrate for those cutscenes.

    I ordered the LE OST too. So I guess I'll be content with that. But damn Square Enix, at least give us a steelbook case for the PS3 one?
