Square Enix Localizes First Final Fantasy Game In Chinese

By Spencer . February 5, 2010 . 3:46am

imageSquare Enix is localizing Final Fantasy XIII in one more language, traditional Chinese.

This is a first for Square Enix. While Final Fantasy games have been localized in many European languages, none of them have been officially translated into Chinese. Other RPGs this generation such as Blue Dragon and Lost Odyssey have Chinese and Korean subtitles on disc.

The news was announced at the Taipei Game Show and the Chinese version of Final Fantasy XIII is on track for release later this year on PlayStation 3.

    But are those good localizations?
    No!
At least the spanish one isn't, in fact it sucks so bad I never play Square-Enix games in spanish.
Actually only Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft make good localizations in spanish.

Trad-Chinese? My friends in HK and Taiwan will rejoice :D
I guess voice over will be in Mandarin?

Well hey, their localizations in English didn't get good until the PS2 era, so maybe they'll improve at some point.

I hope they dub it in both Mandarin and Cantonese, HK has some amazing voice actors for anime. But this is a very cool first, truly an “Asian version” contrary to just having subtitles or translated manuals before.
