Two Kunio-Kun sports games are coming over with River City Ransom branding. Aksys announced River City Super Sports Challenge and River City Soccer Hooligans for North America. Even though these games have River City branding, Alex isn’t the lead character. Kunio is still the series star.

River City Super Sports Challenge is a localized version of Kunio-Kun Hyper Hot Blooded! Great Athletic Meet which came out in Japan a few weeks ago. It’s one part track meet and one part beat ‘em up. While you’re racing to the finish line you can pummel competitors with moves such as the Pizza Shot and Human Bomb. Customize your character and then challenge up to three friends through download play.

River City Soccer Hooligans is news to us. This soccer game follows Captain Kunio as he faces twelve teams from around the world in two on two matches. Players can manage their gang of troublemakers by talking to teammates and giving them stat boosting items. There are fifty unique items to collect and these are unlocked by fulfilling various conditions. Like Super Sports Challenge, River City Soccer Hooligans has multiplayer modes. You can link up for a two on two soccer battle or point kick match.

Release dates for both River City sports titles were not announced.

Are these going to be in the same cart or separate? Very cool. I love the Kunio games for being just straight up fun.

River City Soccer Hooligans sounds like a remolded Nintendo World Cup (“Nekketsu High School Dodgeball Club: Soccer Edition” in Japan). My all-time favorite sports game. My dad used to get real mad while playing that game and I would go up and kick him!

Ah, that’s right Nintendo World Cup was a Kunio-Kun game. Forgot about that :)

These two River City games are on separate carts.

I still play that from time to time, i absolutely love Nintendo World Cup, one of my most favorite sport games ever. :D

        Kunio-Kun games are instant win.

Looking forward to these, personally I really loved Super Dodgeball on gameboy advance, it was so simple but yet so fun. Not sure what to think about the super sports one, but if the soccer plays anything like the Dodgeball game or perhaps a simplified version of Sega Soccer Slam its going to be awesome.
