XNA Game Parodies Ico Cover Art

imageimageYaruhara no Omochi has nothing to do with a horned boy guiding a girl out of a castle. The digital cover art for the Xbox 360 indie game just looks similar.

Indie developer DK Alpla parodied Ico’s Japanese box art for a mochi stacking game. Yaruhara no Omochi has players stack mochi (sticky rice cakes), fish, and seals into towers of three items. Players earn points for each one they make.

That’s it. Wonder how many other people (like me) went on auto download mode after seeing Yaruhara no Omochi’s cover art.

I just d/l’ed the demo, maybe I’ll spend the 80pts if the game is fun :) I always d/l indie games based on their cover arts too, Ico + New Year mochi FTW.

This is just epic fail. 8( Luring us out with such cheap tricks.

I have to admit I was suckered into DLing the demo based on the cover alone. Haven’t played it yet, though.

haha I immediately noticed that cover too, I love the fact they weren’t playing off the art style like ICO did, but rather playing of ICO’s amazing cover itself >w<' Honestly I kind of wish the people who are making Indie games on 360 would just take the time and make better covers T_T' there is a lot of really trashy looking games on there, that like 10 minutes with an illustrator could have fixed. Wait a minute…. IF YOUR MAKING A 360 INDIE GAME AND NEED A COVER ARTIST SEND ME AN EMAIL DAMNIT *holds up sign that says will illustrate for food*

Haha, that’s funny, but also sad that the closest we get to the original cover is a parody…

I remember someone from the ICO team mentioned about the cover and if they used it instead of the rushed CG one we got it would have gotten attention sooner than it did. I don’t get hung up on covers, but where’s the integrity once in a while? Does the “eye catching” approach for mainstream audience really work?
