Fan Makes Final Fantasy VII-2 “Low Poly Tech Demo”

By Spencer . February 23, 2010 . 11:36am

A Final Fantasy VII-2 video is spreading around the web, but it isn’t from Square Enix.

This faux combat demo is made by a fan in Thailand who also made a 3D model of Darth Vader as a Final Fantasy XII judge.

Eh. I wish people would stop advertising these fan games before they’re done. It’s just an invitation for the licence holders to send them mean legal threats resulting in the project being shut down, like that fan sequel to Chrono Trigger.

    • TyeTheCzar

It’s that action Squeenix made which made me shun them altogether. Therefore, I’ve been boycotting anything by them and their sister companies Taito and Eidos.

    • 9inchsamurai

From what I’ve played of that CT fan-sequel, it doesn’t seem like we lost anything of value anyway…

    • Hraesvelgr

      Or the fanmade 3D CT.

  • mFrog

    …? haha

  • Wow…lol. Someone had waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much time on their hands.

    • FireCouch

Or someone found something they like to do? Thus practicing it, getting better at it, making it a potential career?

      • Hraesvelgr

Yeah. I think they should use the talent to make real games, though. If I had any actual talent for rendering and whatnot, I could easily make a small game on my own, outside of doing voice work.

and yet that was pretty awesome. now if square would finish the series off since *minor spoiler* genisis is still alive in secret ending of dirge of ceberus then maybe we would all be happy :D

    • Hraesvelgr

They may not even plan to “finish the series off”(?). Adding all that crap in Advent Children, the short stories, prequels and sequels is just ridiculous and reeks of amateurish writing. And this is coming from someone who hates the original FFVII.

  • Chow

That was amusing. I was expecting actual game demo footage, but it turned out to just be a parody video.

    • pickle11

Couldnt figure that out from title “Fan makes Final Fantasy 7-2”?

      • Chow

From that title, along with an embedded video on the blog, I would expect actual game demo footage of said fan game. This is why I wasn’t expecting a parody video, as it’s apparent that there is no actual fan game that it’s a video of.

  • Yea I remember seeing this on Youtube a while back. This says it all:

  • Aw, Barret cut down his flat-top.

  • ndjn3979

Awesome parody! It’s great to see more of the opposite side of the fandom spectrum. Captures some of my own feelings about it exactly. Funny too.

  • Hraesvelgr

But there already is an FFVII-2. It’s called Advent Children, and it sucked.

  • Eddie

I hope this guy has a job or gets a job in the video game industry he seems talented.

  • Aoshi00

I don’t like Cloud’s new ACC outfit, but Omnislash FTW. I loved the mugshots in the menu too, nicely drawn. FFXIII is missing that and the victory fanfare :)

Now I need to go listen to the ACC soundtrack…

    • Eddie

I liked how the menu on Final Fantasy 13 had the well….what would you call that? (character face movement thingy) Although Fang’s did look a wee bit masculine.

      • Aoshi00

I don’t mind the 2-sec movement thing, it was pretty cool, but I just don’t think those were the best looking shots of the chars. Sazh looks like he’s surprised, Fang’s face looks huge (maybe like a man like you said lol) and different than usual.. I think there are also better pics for Lightning.. I guess I just miss the actual Nomura illustration, which we haven’t seen much for XIII.

        • Eddie

Yea you have a point, better pics could have been chosen. I kinda miss the Final Fantasy X illustrations now that I think of it. I guess they are now out with the old in with the new?

    • thebanditking

Agreed, I really wish they kept the drawn portraits for the menu, and the victory fanfare. Much like the PS3 version of Star Ocean TLH I prefer the anime style portraits and menu.

  • cowcow

I like it. It gives us an idea how a PS3 FF VIII remake would look like

    I guess

  • Only bad thing with this is that we already know exactly what might happen. Sure 200 years is a long time and we´ve barely touched 10 or so of them. But still, however they make it we all know how it´s going to end.

And creating such a thing is a great way of finding at least a couple of minutes in the spotlight, before SE decides to crash the project.

A nice idea, but why FFVII? Would have been a lot more interesting to see some other characters like Squall & Rinoa or Terra & Locke or just about any other characters than the FFVII cast.

  • I found this video over a year ago, why is this news now?
