Get Bonus Graphics? Sin & Punishment: Star Successor Visually Updated?

By Spencer . February 25, 2010 . 3:50pm

In the second stage of Sin & Punishment: Star Successor Isa and Kachi battle a gooball flinging stingray over water. The fight looks a little different in the North American version.

No, not just the “commander” to “boss” HUD change. There’s a dark cloud in the background. See?

The commander battle from the Japanese version.

The change is minor, but it makes me wonder what else (if anything) did Treasure update?

We’ll find out on May 7 when Sin & Punishment: Star Successor makes its debut in Europe, a month before the game comes out in North America on June 7.

Special thanks to Diaz’s eagle eyes for the tip!

That’s pretty cool of them, personally I’m a bit more excited about getting this than Other M in June.

  • Code

    rar, can’t wait >ww<!!

  • I like how the bosses are called something different. Not sure why they saw fit to change it when they didn’t in the first game.

  • Nice to see Treasure continuing their history of improving games for their western releases.

  • Kris

Interesting, I’m glad they did something nice to make the wait worthwhile!

  • adempton

I know everyone’s saying “wow that’s nice of them” and everything, but I gotta say… I’m not seeing it. I can see in the 2 images that the second one has a … darker, less appealing sky…? I don’t see how it’s an improvement, just a change. Can someone help me out? What am I missing?

    • symytry

only thing I can see that I don’t see in the top image is a shadow… You’re right though, the sky looks worse, but that could just be scrolling textures in classic treasure vein. Anyone know what really was improved?

    • You’re right! That’s why I put “updated” and not “improved” in the title. It’s a curious change, perhaps a hint that there are other differences.

      • adempton

Right, fair enough. I was more getting at the other comments being posted. Collectively people are saying that it’s good of them to do, or that it was worth the wait because of this, but I don’t see how that makes sense… o.o

        • thaKingRocka

agreed. the NA shot looks worse to me, too.

  • This game is out of my league for what I usually play, but I really want it, if not just because it looks like a very interesting game concept/art-wise (a la FSR, for people who know that game…)

  • Guest

Wtf!? EU is getting it first! >_< Well Im not waiting for June

  • AllenSmithee

It also appears that the font is changed for the score but maybe I’m a fool. And it says “Destroyed” instead of “Hits” but that could just be the situation.

If that’s just the way it is, don’t worry, I know that there are two characters and the name wasn’t changed! Hahahaha. ;D

Maybe the background is just like this for a short time, Treasure often does stuff like that. Like, perhaps it was a flash of blackening (rather than lightening), who knows.

  • tce8

All they have done is remove the blue background. And, considering that the cutscene preceding the fight has been shown to still HAVE said background, the fight will probably get it back for the final release as well.

Additionally, they screwed up the lighting on Isa’s ship in the intro cutscene. Nice “update”.

People, stop making such a big deal out of this.
