In Sony’s Legend of Kunoichi You Whack Ninjas With Hammers

image Seriously. Legend of Kunoichi is an upcoming PSP and PlayStation 3 game where ninjas jump out of mats and players throw hammers at them. The ESRB, which leaked the title, compared it to “whack-a-mole” with grunting ninjas.

We first heard about Legend of Kunoichi last month along with three other Sony Computer Entertainment America titles from trademark research. Now we know what Earthshield, Digi-Tiles, and Smashbreak are too. Descriptions of each game follow.

Digi-Tiles
This is a puzzle game in which players must correctly arrange number tiles to create mathematical equations that equal zero. Players earn more points for creating longer, more complex equations.

Earthshield
This is an arcade-style shooter in which players control a small spaceship that shoots lasers at waves of geometrically shaped objects that move across the screen. Players move their spaceship left-and-right to shoot down the small enemies that explode in a small burst of light. One line of text in the game reads, "Go and fight in hell for all I care!"

Legend of Kunoichi
This is an action game in which players defeat ninjas that spring up from under mats by throwing hammers at them. The gameplay is similar to traditional "whack-a-mole" mechanics, as players are rewarded as much for their quick reflexes as their hammer-throwing prowess. When ninjas are hit, they will grunt loudly as a bright burst appears at the point of impact.

Smashbreak
This is an arcade-style game in which players bounce a small ball against formations of bricks in the middle of a game table. Players clear out the blocks while also trying to hit the ball into their opponent’s goal.

All four games are rated as PlayStation 3 and PSP games suggesting this is Sony’s first batch of internally developed PlayStation Minis.

Oh yeah! Some of those sound good. And Monsters (Probably) Stole My Princess was rated too, so hopefully we see that soon as well.

    Heh, I like this

“During the course of the game, some suggestive text and images may appear on screen: a princess exclaims, “Save me with your sexiness, Dukie!” and “Oh Dukie! You am mah hero! Let’s make a babies!”; also, a giant gorilla wearing a red sparkly thong is introduced as “Elvis Kong in a Thong.”

Works for me, I was not setting my anticipation too high (some claiming/hoping for a new action game for PS3). The minis catalog is severely lacking when it comes to decent content (though its still not as flooded with shovel ware as the iphone).

“internally developed Playstation minis”? Isn’t that screenshot of a character from Sega’s Shinobi series? There’s even some sort of Sega logo in the corner. Of course, I guess there probably isn’t any pictures of this stuff yet, and it’s simply a stock image you used (watch somebody ignore this last sentence in a reply).

EDIT: taking a closer look at the thumbnail, I guess it really was a stock image that was used for this page. ;)

Picked because it’s hilarious. “A happy new year.”
