Inafune “Passionate” About Making Mega Man Powered Up 2 Happen

By Spencer . February 26, 2010 . 6:18pm

imageIn 2006, Capcom remade Mega Man for the PSP. Mega Man Powered Up (aka Rockman Rockman in Japan) has charming 2.5D graphics, two extra bosses, and a mode where you can play through the game as the robot masters.

Mega Man Powered Up 2 seems like a no brainer sequel. So, why hasn’t Keiji Inafune, the father of Mega Man, made it yet?

“Many people have asked us about that. I too feel very passionate about making it happen. But as a reality, there are so many things I want to do and Mega Man Powered Up 2 is one of the projects that is still patiently waiting for its turn…,” answered in a fan powered Q&A.

While not working on Mega Man Powered Up 2, Inafune is keeping busy with Dead Rising 2 and Mega Man 10.

  • He said the same thing about Legends 3. Going by his remarks here and there, I think both will come up eventually. It’s just they’re not on the horizon when he and his team are working on these other games.

I would love a MML 3! I’m hoping with Megaman Volnut being in TvC, more attention is given to the Legends series.

  • I want Powered Up 2 so badly on PSP. I hope this really come to fruition!

  • nyoron

Please don’t forget about Maverick Hunter X2 either, Inafune!

I’d kill for another prologue anime.

I really don’t like the aesthetic of part one. I thought when I entered classic mode, they would let me play the game in its original form, but updated to make it a bit easier. I never could beat the yellow devil back on the NES. I didn’t know about the pause damage trick.

Man, I wish I could give Infune millions of dollars to do whatever he wanted to with the Mega Man series.

  • 9inchsamurai

The voice acting really killed Powered Up for me. It was just so bad. Plus, unlocking a lot of the extra content was too tedious for me.

“… Mega Man Powered Up 2 is one of the projects that is still patiently waiting for its turn…,”

That doesn’t sound good. He’s probably waiting for a platform where it’d actually sell, I hope he can find one since I loved MMPU.

If I had my say, they’d make it downloadable on the three consoles, like with 9 and 10.

  • anbu

Any megaman game on the psp will do.

Japan is selling psp so well, why not add the psp with your mega man 10 atleast.

And I just commented on a mega man topic yesterday. lol.

  • kupomogli

Id buy Mega Man Powered Up 2 because Mega Man 2 is good, however, my reasoning would be so we could get Mega Man Powered Up 3. MM3 > MM2.

  • JeremyR

It’s because Capcom hates the PSP.

Why has it been 2 years and no sequel to the biggest selling game Capcom has? Because they hate the PSP (and Sony).

And don’t even get me started on the long ago announced DMC and RE PSP.

    • I don’t think Mega Man Powered Up was the biggest selling game by any stretch… also they have made 3 Monster Hunter games for the PSP.

  • epy

Powered Up 2, Maverick Hunter X 2, Megaman Dash 3… sure Inafune wants to make them, but Capcom itself doesn’t seem to interested. Honestly, I dunno if we’ll ever see them.

  • megamanx 9? please sir do this now. address zero’s storyline and what happened to wily and dr light.

  • The original game was what made me finally buy a PSP in the first place, so I’d love a sequel. Megaman 2 is worthy of a remake to begin with, and all the fun additions of a Powered Up version would be awesome.

  • Another remake like that would be great news! I hope they expand upon that level editor, and let me play as the robot masters again. ^__^
