PlayStation 3 Error 8001050F May Be Resolved [Update]

Users are reporting that “phat” PlayStation 3s are working properly after a clock error prevented access to PlayStation Network and trophy enabled titles.

I turned on my non-slim PS3, successfully signed on to PSN, and loaded Heavy Rain. Please note this is anecdotal evidence and not an official announcement. If you decide to log on now you may want to update your clock.

Let us (and the gazillion other PS3 owners affected) know if your PlayStation 3 works in the comments.

Update: Everything’s fixed now. Corporate Communications & Social Media Director, Patrick Seybold, had this to say about the leap year bug.

We are aware that the internal clock functionality in the PS3 units other than the slim model, recognized the year 2010 as a leap year. Having the internal clock date change from February 29 to March 1 (both GMT), we have verified that the symptoms are now resolved and that users are able to use their PS3 normally.

mines working now, though ive lost a bunch of trophies

    • 311

just put the game back on the cpnsole and then update the trophies that is how I got them back

PS. the only bad thing about all this (bug) was that it corrupted my resistance 2 save file

Works and all my trophies (or at least the ones I care about, i.e. Demon’s Souls) are there.

  • raymk

well mine works i lost nothing because i never logged in even before i knew of the problem just found out about it this morning but this was still a bad thing to happen

    • daizyujin

Same here. I think you were fine so long as you didn’t turn it on during the bug period.

  • http://twitter.com/TroyJWoody Troy Woodhams

YES it worked. Just had to reset date. I even did it via internet and it got the right date and works fine now.

  • gamer23

    MINE IS BACK ONLINE!!!!!

  • gamer23

although i have lost some (not all) trophies

  • the_quiet

Working fine now, although Heavy Rain got corrupted. A very sloppy bug for which Sony should be ashamed!

  • chrisandrew

My PS3 is working fine now. Lost some trophies but as soon as i went on the games they came back.

Bet Sony try and take credit for it being solved, when it can’t be as my PS3 hasn’t been connected to the internet for 4 days now.

Yeah, everything works perfectly on my obese launch PS3. Strangely enough, I logged on during the problems (without knowing, of course) and I lost no trophies, then or now.
I also liked how it reset my date at first to 12/31/1999, but on the second time I turned it on, it displayed 4/31/2020. Kind of random…

  • sfas

    Mine works now

I have not used my Phat in months, just the Slim. So is it okay to turn on the Phat now? I’m going to turn it on eventually to play FFXII. I hope it didn’t mess w/ my PS2 game data, I got tons on it.

    • daizyujin

If you didn’t turn it on during the bug period you should be 100% fine. All you will have to do is set the date to the current day as it will display 2/28 11:58pm when you turn it on.

  • Kuza21

Just tired mine and it works.

  • Ereek

I’m still scared to turn it on. . . Just out of paranoia I’ll wait until tomorrow.

  • badmoogle

My PS3 is working fine now, everything is as it was before the malfunction.

Mine is back too, didn’t lose a thing thankfully.

  • JeremyR

    I’m glad Sony doesn’t make airplanes…

  • pacanug

Everything including trophy data is there. This is why I relentlessly back up my save data to both a USB drive and SD card. Makes me realize how much I heart my BC PS3 :3

  • bobhoskins

Did anyone look over G4 today? They forever cemented their status as the de facto Failbox Fanbots over how much they tried to spread this as a Haiti-level crisis.

So, we just switch the time on the PS3? Sound easy enough.

  • daizyujin

I didn’t risk it since I had had my PS3 off since Friday. Turned it on at 11:56 pm on 3/1 and it said 2/28, reset the time via the internet to the correct time and everything is fine. Nothing lost. I assume only PS3s that were turned on during the bug had corrupted data.

  • eliel

my ps3 is back to normal ^_^ still got my saves… apocalyPS3

  • Xeahnort

I´m glad i spent the entire day at work yesterday and didn´t turn on the PS3.

    Too bad, Sony.

  • thebanditking

Not a big deal really, just a minor bug. Hardly anything for everyone to be in such an uproar over. Still glad Sony fixed this so quickly.

    • pressstart

      1. Did Sony really fix anything?

      2. 311 said their Resistance save got corrupted. I think save corruption is one of the gravest sins this side of gaming! Mainly because of the time investment, because you can always buy a new disc, but saves are forever (I wish at least :)

    • dv8shun

Some consoles not being able to play games, even offline, seems worthy enough for an uproar.

      • thebanditking

I mean in the sense that some were chalking this up to be. Its a shame that some are having game corruption problems and I don’t mean to downplay that but the internet was calling this the PS3′s RROD which it was most certainly no where near that level of severity.

Also from what I read no ones console is permanently bricked and those effected can go back to using it as normal now. A sloppy mistake but as long as those effected can walk away with little to no damage and given the short ammount of time this effected users it was not that bad at all.
