Namco Bandai and Game Republic have been working on a buddy monster game for PS3 and Xbox 360 previously called Majin: The Fallen Realm. Today, they announced a new name and a summer release.

Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom features a boy (described as a “cunning young outsider”) who meets Majin, a powerful monster-like creature, in a kingdom ruined by a dark force. The boy is an agile adventurer you directly control. Majin is the AI-controlled brawn. Namco Bandai notes Majin can assess conditions and act as its own entity or follow commands given by players. Majin grows throughout the game gaining more abilities that allow the duo to explore blocked areas. During combat, Majin and the unnamed boy fight together.

Yoshiki Okamoto who worked on Street Fighter II, Resident Evil, and Everyparty is the executive producer of Majin and the Forsaken Kingdom.

I have been waiting to hear more on this, looks to be the spiritual successor to Folklore on the PS3. GameRepublic have a decent track record on PlayStation (Genji 1 was well done and so was Folklore) so I will be keeping my eye on this.

Agreed. I’ve been waiting for more information on this since it was announced.

I liked Folklore for the story, but not so much for the gameplay.

Still, this looks like something I’ll have to check out, if anything the atmosphere looks interesting.

The artistic design and the environments are beautifully recreated

Looks more like The last guardian meets Folklore

      My thoughts near-exactly.

Great news to see that Majin is progressing, I really like Game Republic (Folklore is great, and I also really like Brave Story, Dark Mist, and the original Genji).

I’m also keeping my eye on their work on the Clash of the Titans game. It actually looks pretty good in screenshots. My interest definitely went way up when I realized it was by Game Republic.

This really looks like Folklore, I liked many of the past Game Republic’s games too like Genji 1 and Dark Mist. They’re making a game on Clash on the Titans? I think I need to see both the old and new movie.

Looks beautiful. Definately got the Last Guardian vibe going on, probably not a bad thing.

I’ll agree with everyone here that this game looks promising. Can’t wait to see more about it….

I haven’t played a Game Republic game before but I’m really looking forward for this one.

I love the atmosphere of its world, and even though at first glance the concept reminds me of The Last Guardian i hope that it will be a very unique experience.
