Super Street Fighter IV Has A “Special Set Of Things” For Street Fighter IV Purchasers

Super Street Fighter IV Has A “Special Set Of Things” For Street Fighter IV PurchasersIn a Gamasutra interview, Christian Svensson, VP of Strategic Planning & Business Development at Capcom, discussed Super Street Fighter IV’s pricing. At $40, it’s less than the original price of Street Fighter IV, but more than the Platinum Hits reprint in stores now. Capcom couldn’t release all of the added content as downloadable content. Putting the extra characters and features on a Platinum/Greatest Hits disc wasn’t an option either.

“The problem is that it gets a new title ID, which means no cross-play with the original consumers,” Svensson said to Gamasutra. “And the other part is designing the game around, figuring out who has which package, even if you could do that.”

Basically, Capcom had to make another game, but there is a special bonus for fans that purchased both versions of Street Fighter IV.

“And we haven’t announced it, but for those who have purchased and played Street Fighter IV on the system that they play this on, there will be a nifty little special set of things that those people will have the option of enjoying that others won’t,” Svensson teased.

Super Street Fighter IV, packed with 3D models of Cody, Adon, and Ibuki, is scheduled to come out on April 27 in North America.

Fine by me, personally I never had an issue with them releasing another title. Its only $40 for one and the additions and balancing changes more then cover the cost. I am becoming less and less likely to buy DLC anyway as the price is usually too high for content that should be on the disc. Then factor in if my HDD crashes and not only do I loose everything but have to re download it all again.

Given Capcom's track record with the SF series, it's quite understandable that they would release an update of SF4 with added content, characters, and changes to the system and character balance. However, there's still concern regarding the lack of plans for an arcade or PC release.

How do they know who purchased the original game

  • Kuza21

The only way I could see them checking would be from the save data. : /. I really hope it's something cool….Already have it on pre-order though. :P

Regardless of how much the add! In this current age of Harddrives and Network gaming! Still trying to milk us for everything is not acceptable, but hell if EA can do it with Madden.

Re-download it if you CAN! With Microsoft shutting down original Xbox's Xbox Live access, it shows that Digital Downloads aren't the greatest thing. After next month you will no longer be able to download anything on the original Xbox. Someday in the not too distant future Xbox 360 will most likely suffer the same fate. It's always been Disc or nothing for me… I hope I can still enjoy my games when I'm older.

  • Ujn Hunter

I certainly hope the extra content from SFIV (costumes) are accessible in SSFIV, maybe that is the bonus? Also, Capcom… You COULD have made this an update to the original game… you just didn't WANT to. Don't lie.
