First Squad Of Vanquish Screenshots From Platinum Games

By Spencer . March 3, 2010 . 7:33pm

Not to be outdone by an early Famitsu reveal, Platinum Games updated their site with Vanquish story info and screenshots.

The reason why you’re in a transforming suit is because the United States and Russia are at war over energy resources. Vanquish takes place in a space station occupied by Russian forces. It was originally built to transfer solar energy, but has been converted to a solar powered laser that wiped out San Francisco. Sam has to reclaim the space station (from robots) before it’s used to blast New York.

The English description from Platinum Games also notes Vanquish is due in stores this winter, which suggests we’ll get this game around the same time as Japan.

Well, this looks like a shooter alright.
Then again, I remember saying Bayonetta just looked like an action game.
I’m interested to see this in motion, to see what it does differently.

    Looks okay….. MAYBE.

I guess I can pretend, for the time being, that this is a spiritual descendant of P.N.03.

    US vs Russia, how original.

Although I guess it’s new that they are fighting over solar power space stations. Because I guess there’s only so much solar power to go around…

It seems I was quite mistaken when I assumed “shooter” meant First Person Shooter. OK so this is a 3rd person game, well I am more interested now then before. Hopefully it wont be a Gears clone but with Lost Planet 2s departure from being a single player experience perhaps this can fill that void. This could still end up terribly generic but I am going to keep my eye on this, as like the original Lost Planet it could surprise me.

  • While these shots do NOTHING for me… I have faith in Mikami! He *is* the father of the GREATEST game ever made, after all.

Well at least we don’t have to worry about this game getting a bad port like Bayonetta did.
    from the 1up interview :
“We’re leading development on PS3,” said Vanquish director Shinji Mikami. “Obviously each console has its own unique requirements and limitations, but we feel if we can create a good enough presentation on PS3, we’ll be off to a good start.”

Now we can just worry if the game will be any good.

    • That just means the “bad port” will be to 360 this time, unless PG now has the resources for dual platform development all of a sudden.

      • lostinblue

not necessarily. PS3 has been known to be the harder system to program for and the one that takes longer to reach certain milestones.

If, they’re doing it alongside, it just means they’re taking their time on the PS3 and then matching the progress done onto the X360 build, which is just fine, the way cross development should be done, really. (it takes more time than just doing a x36o version and then allowing another team to port the game over to another system like they did with bayonetta though)
