Blaze Union: Story to Reach the Future Is Sting’s Next RPG

By Spencer . March 9, 2010 . 11:52pm

08This week’s issue of Famitsu blew the lid off Blaze Union: Story to Reach the Future which is coming to PSP on May 27. That’s one month after the PSP port of Knights in the Nightmare.

While “union” is in the title, Blaze Union is not a sequel to Yggdra Union. It’s a successor or spiritual follow up set in the same world, but many years before Yggdra was born. Sting appears to have kept the same battle system that made Yggdra Union so addictive and threw in a bunch of new characters.

Atlus will publish Blaze Union in Japan. The game hasn’t been announced for North America, but Atlus is publishing it and Sting developed games such as Hexyz Force tend to be picked up by Atlus.

Where’s Dept. Heaven Episode IX Sting? :(

  • malek86

Want. Though I’ll wait for the american release.

By the way, same gameverse as YU, does that mean it’s a Dept. Heaven chapter?

    • http://www.siliconera.com Spencer

I don’t believe so. This is being developed by a different team at Sting.

Yggdra Union was good but why give us another game with the exact same gameplay. I’d rather play something somewhat unique and not just the same game with a different story. It’s not like Yggdra Union has more than 40 missions(/sarcasm.)

Like I said before, I guess Atlus had something to do with it. Now that they have a publishing deal, they are probably the ones who tell them what to make.

On that note, I’m still waiting to see if they really will “work on some Atlus properties”.

Same gameplay, and more important “The Character Designer is changed to Kousaki Rui”

=> No doubt that this game will be a FAILURE

    • malek86

      Who’s that?

      • lolicon

I didnt mean anything bad in Kousaki, it’s just because the previous one’s (Satoko Kiyuduki) work looks much better.

        • malek86

Agreed, YU’s chara design was awesome. This doesn’t look too bad itself though. But I’ll need some better scans before I can say for sure.

If anything, I’m worried because it seems that everyone on the scan is a girl. And fittingly, the bad guy is a man. This some kind of amazons story?

From the hokanko of 2ch, I read that Garlot’s is voiced by Toriumi Kousuke, the same as Yuri from ToV. A male.
I guess that’s because the art that Garlot seems like a girl (a slender body with long red ponytail. And from the CV list, only 2 of the characters introduced on that page are female.

Is this the “big SRPG Famitsu release”? Pah, what a dissapointment.

    • jj984jj

No, it was the SRW OG Saga game. Yggdra Union isn’t remotely popular, nor are any of Sting’s Dept. Heaven games unfortunately. Though I think their other games are partly to blame for that, it’s not like most really pay attention to whether a game is from one team or another at Sting.

      • Trotmeister

You mean they were hyping the remake of that old SNES games? That’s even more pathetic.

        • Yuan

And Jump teased a big title which is revealed to be a remake of a GBC game.
Though those series are actually known well in Japan.

So this game is before the events in yggdra union huh,
    interesting…

  • thebanditking

Looks great, Im just glad they are putting this on PSP from the start rather then making me buy a DS version only to release a remastered port later.

This is fantastic news! None of the other Dept. Heaven games matched the fun of Yggdra.
