Final Fantasy Versus XIII Has Airships

By Spencer . March 17, 2010 . 4:49pm

imageOver Twitter, Final Fantasy Versus XIII producer Tetsuya Nomura gave a small status update about the next HD entry in the Fabula Nova Crystallis project.

A fan asked what percent the game is complete. Nomura declined to answer and said, “Everything isn’t connected yet, each part has a different rate of progression.” The second tweet is more newsworthy, “But, you can fly on the world map with an airship.”

Sounds like controllable airships are back in the series! Still no release date or even a windo for Final Fantasy Versus XIII, though.

World map and airships sounds promising.

  • BK0000

I’ll believe it when I see it.

    • me 2 ……. but im already bought from the trailers and yoko shinomura ……..and william shakespear’s quotes *__*
«« yes squeenix im easy ……….

  • Aoshi00

Sounds good indeed, FFXIII was sorely missing it (I mean “warp”?), well, at least we saw the airship in a cutscene… But I’ll reserve my judgement on the story, Nomura’s been making too many KH games and Advent Children after all…

  • bobhoskins

Doesn’t matter… Nomura has throughly proven his “storytelling artistry” with AC and the KH series.

    Versus XIII’s future is bleak…figuratively.

When is the last time Square Enix has released a game with a good storyline that wasn’t a remake or a game from an acquired company(Arkham Asylum.) It’s been quite awhile. So yeah, FFVersus 13 probably isn’t going to be any different.

      • BK0000

Vagrant Story in 2000. That was their last really great game.

And now with Matsuno gone… he can’t save them anymore. Actually, the only FF mainstay to my knowledge that remains with the company other than Nomura is Kitase… If Square is to survive, they must evolve.

Actually, they seem to be surviving fine. Just not in my mind!

          • Kris

They tried evolving and made a game called Final Fantasy XIII. A lot of people didn’t seem to like it. :(
            I did though!

          • bobhoskins

Take note that most who didn’t like it were Nomuroids, or hopeless purists who couldn’t move on past FF6.

A company can’t evolve when a retarded fanbase doesn’t let it evolve. The Kingdom Hearts games are a living example of that…

          • BK0000

Calling XIII an evolution for the series is like saying Front Mission Evolved is really an evolution for the Front Mission series. Both are horrible directions for both series.

You forgot The World Ends With You. That game was made by a fairly background kind of guy working at SE. It shows that SE still has hidden talent somewhere in there. However…Nomura got the blunt of the credit for WEWY, even though he barely had anything to do with it (he only drew a picture and was a producer…).

When credit goes where credit is not due, that latent talent is all but forgotten.

    Console exclusive airship battles?

In all seriousness, I hope this game turns out halfway decent. Wouldnt it be interesting if it ended up being better received then FFXIII?

    • epy

Was thinking the same thing. Maybe fans will look back and deem FF Versus XIII a true Final Fantasy, with FFXIII being regarded as the spin-off.

      • I don’t get why people hate FFXIII so much, I got to Palumpolum and the game really is growing on me, in fact, none of the characters annoy me, not even Snow or Vanille.
Also, to the people that complain about no towns, no NPC’s, etc…
        Did you play CC: FFVII?
Because it had like A town and nobody complained, it had the same shop system too!
I think people are just complaining because they like to.
And the “no NPC’s” argument is totally invalid, in Palumpolum there’s lots of trapped people that say things like “You’re a monster” or “So you just punch people when you’re mad”, and there’s Bernie and his dad and I bet there are other more that I haven’t and didn’t hear/see.
And while we don’t get as many NPC’s as other FFs, you get more character interactions with the auto-talk.

  • I’m glad they’re doing this. Looks like this will be a full-fledged Final Fantasy game like older ones such as 7 or 8. I loved piloting the Balamb Garden in 8 as well as the Regnarok. Taking the world map and exploring out of Final Fantasy 13 was not a good idea.
