Purchase A PSPgo, Get Monster Hunter Freedom Unite

image Capcom and Sony have a present for future PSPgo purchasers in Japan. Buy the download-only PSP system and you get a code to download Monster Hunter Freedom Unite as a bonus.


The promotion starts on March 18, the same day Monster Hunter Freedom Unite arrives on the PlayStation Store along with other Capcom published PSP games. Ultimate Ghosts ‘n Goblins and God of War: Chains of Olympus (which Capcom published in Japan) will be sold for 1,500 yen ($16) and 2,200 yen ($24) respectively. A Monster Hunter Freedom Unite download costs 1,600 yen ($17).

    Im not sure how this will effect Japanese sales of the Go. Sure if anything is going to move some units this will, but so many in Japan already own the game and Japan (thankfully) seems to prefer physical media. Not to mention with MHP3 coming why pick up a Go and only be able to play MHP2 when you can pick up a cheaper 3000 unit and play any game you want.

      Well, MHP2G has pretty much been on the top 30 charts since it came out 2 years ago. So it’s still a big deal in Japan.

      And the main point of the Go, is that it’s actually well, portable. The PSP requires you to have very big pockets. Or a briefcase or something. So

    I doubt this will help much. If the game really costs only $17 to download, it’s not much of an incentive.

  • And so it begins, the sell of the PSPgo. Load times are just beautiful with this game when it comes to the ‘go.

    • You know you can play Digital Download games on EVERY model of the PSP right? But you can only play UMD games on PSP-1000 to 3000…

    I think it’s a nice gesture, but honestly probably not going to make Go’s fly off the shelf, I think even your average gamer knows the 3000 is the better deal both for the system’s features themselves and the price of the bundled MHFU.
