Cave Story Hops Onto WiiWare

imageIt’s been a long journey for Nicalis and Pixel, but Cave Story is finally complete… again. The WiiWare version makes its debut today.

Cave Story, if you haven’t played it before, is a freeware PC game made by Daisuke Amaya over the course of five years. You play as a boy who wakes up without his memory in a cave full of Mimigas. With platformer elements and plenty of items to collect, Cave Story feels like a lost NES game inspired by Metroid and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night.

On WiiWare, Cave Story costs 1,200 Wii Points ($12), which is a lot more than zero. However, Nicalis added a number of features to this version of Cave Story. There’s new art, music (options for Cave Story classic are in the game too), a boss rush, time attack mode, a brand new localization, and a second playable character that fans of the PC game will recognize.

    And obviously, not in Europe.

rar! Can’t wait, seriously I fell in love with Cave Story way back when I played it >w<' By far one of my all time favorite games, and really the first game to get me into indie gaming. It's been a longgg wait for it to come out on the Wii, but I'm really happy for Pixel and everyone at Nicalis!

It has one too many fetch quests, and the good ending is definitely going to need a guide to obtain, but the atmosphere and controls are top notch. I’m more than willing to pay 1200 points for it – in fact, I have exactly 1200 points in my Wii. How lucky. Now, if only NOE would be so kind…

      • It is coming to Europe, but doesn’t have a date yet :(

This sucks. Nintendo seriously needs to get their act together about Europe.

rar, yeah I will agree with the good ending it’s not exactly something a person will nab unless you have some conscious knowledge of it. But honestly I figure it’s a little better, I remember when I originally discovered it, it was like being a kid again discovering some big secret, you had no idea was even there, which is so rare in games now a days >w<' I never really noticed or minded the fetch quests, I can't imagine it being a problem, none of them take very long x_x' But oh well, mann at least to me then, Cave Story was pretty much perfect, such a great game zwz!

This will likely be my second Wii ware purchase (Castlevania being the first). I never played the original but after watching the vid interview with Pixel I was very impressed.
