Yes good news for Persona series :p
    Persona 5!

Is this what it’s like to have a child? This welling up of sheer joy in me?
The real wait begins now! Now, if this thing only took 9 months of waiting like a kid does…

Oh well, it will be worth the wait!

    • puchinri

      This + lol
And the necessary doctor visits are equal to absolutely necessary updates/news?

  • Xeahnort

Persona 5 coming to PS3 ( or PSP).

    • http://twitter.com/mr_raccoon Jason

      …possibly on the 3DS too.

I will actually be quite upset if it’s PSP, instead of PS3.

      • Devonian

handhelds are the wave of the future for RPGs, and that includes SMT games. iirc, the last few entries in the franchise (Devil Survivor, Strange Journey, the remakes of Personas 1 and 3) were on handhelds…

        “I WILL… I WILL GET A GF.”

His mind is a little fuzzy. Must be that Guardian Force he got.

I woke up feeling sick this morning, but reading this news has made me feel all better. :)
We all knew it was coming, but to have it confirmed relieves the small shadow of doubt that was in the back of my mind.

  • Hraesvelgr

Hope they do something good with it. I liked Persona 3 and 4 as much as the next guy, but I’d like to see something that’s a bit more than just “Persona 3 with a different setting/cast.” I mean, I prefer Persona 4 over 3 in pretty much every way, but yeah…

    • Ereek

I feel the same way. While I did enjoy it, P4 was basically a pretty re-coat of P3.

I’d actually prefer a main series game, but I’ll take this as well.

      • foopy

If you’re looking for a main series SMT, look no further than Strange Journey.

The only thing missing is the IV.

        • malek86

Heh, I got it just today (with the faulty sountrack, argh) but I won’t start it yet, since I’m already busy with Devil Summoner PSP. Which is not bad in itself.

    • Vino21

3 and 4 were massively different from 1 and 2. If they’re going current gen, then I expect the same amount of difference. :3

      • jj984jj

3 and 4 were different because they were directed by Katsura Hashino, who started directing with Maken X before moving on to Nocturne, Digital Devil Saga, and the aforementioned Persona 3 and 4.

I’m hoping he’ll try something new here as well but it won’t be as drastic a change as it was from 1 and 2, which I’m sure current fans don’t want anyway.

    • Zeik56

If they continue their track record this game should be quite different from P3/P4. Atlus seems to have a habit making a game, then making a sequel on the same console that’s an improvement on the previous formula, and then making radical changes when jumping to a new console. (See SMT 1/2 and Nocturne, P1/P2 and P3/P4, Devil Summoner 1/2 and Devil Summoner Raidou 1/2, etc.)

I’d be surprised if they made yet another “P3″.

  • kupomogli

I’m thinking Persona 4 Portable. The amount of times Persona 3 got released and rereleased in only three years I would expect nothing less.

I already own Persona 2 Eternal Punishment, but I’d actually like to see a PSP version of Persona 2 with both Eternal Punishment and Innocent Sin, minus the gay music that they added into the PSP version of Revelations Persona.

After that? Shin Megami Tensei 4 please. Persona 3 and 4 were good, but they had nothing on SMT Nocturne.

    • Ereek

Oh God, don’t say that. Please, please don’t let it be P4P.

      • wharcraff

Actually that might not be too bad for fans or newcomers. P4P could just move forward the trend of releasing a portable game, from a console with added content and mechanics from the next game in the series like P3P did with adding game mechanics and such from P4. But back on topic.

Hope P5 gets enough time in the oven to feel as fresh and exciting as the previous entries in the series felt. And a main female adult protagonist(teacher/mentor to those with the gift)wouldn’t be a bad start to that.

    • http://twitter.com/Askinya Bri

Nocturne was amazing. I also wouldn’t mind another non-DS SMT game.

      • Joanna

what’s wrong with the DS SMT games? Or are you one of those people who shun handhelds/the DS?

  • Nekobo

I just drooled a little in my mouth.

  • arcane93

Um . . . those of you looking for SMT 4/a new main series game do know that SMT: Strange Journey came out this week, right?

  • http://twitter.com/Askinya Bri

Don’t get me wrong, Persona 5 makes my heart melt, but Persona 2 is probably one of my favorite games of all time, I would love love love if they ‘remake’ it and package it with Innocent Sin for US.

I can dream though…like I’m dreaming for an XBLA/PSN updated Trap Gunner… le sigh.

    • Hraesvelgr

I’d buy it. Hell, I’d buy them separately. I already own a legit copy of Innocent Sin (+ fan translation) and own Eternal Punishment in both languages. The game (both parts) ranks up highly for me, probably top 3.

  • Code

rar, awesome, I really look forward to it, it’s one of the few RPG series which has really wowed me in the last few years.

  • TyeTheCzar

I would love to see the next Persona set in the US. Just like the anime Baccano, the change in setting from the same ‘ol Japan could make for extremely interesting scenarios.

    • epy

Don’t know about that. It would be America from a japanese point of view so…. the character would be all Hollywood archetypes with the pretty weak main that changes into a whole different character in two hours, the main’s love interest, the jock, the inevitable black gang member, the slut and the ner. Oh, and this is America, so everyone is blond, have guns, and all non-main characters are fat…

Yeah, just keep it in Japan please.

Definitely can’t wait to see what they have in store for us with P5 :P

  • Vino (Tim N)

I got into Persona with 3&4. So looking forward to this.
