Mai Shiranui Makes Triumphant Return In The King Of Fighters XIII

By Spencer . March 25, 2010 . 7:47am

imageFan favorite, fan carrying ninja, Mai Shiranui was absent from The King of Fighters XII. SNK isn’t going to make that mistake again.

SNK confirmed the bouncy fighter for The King of Fighters XIII on a splash page. Location tests at Hey begin today. SNK plans to release the Taito Type x2 arcade game in Japan this summer.

No news about North America or console versions at this time.

Update: Z_merquise points out Mai isn’t the only character from the girls team returning in The King of Fighters XIII. King and Yuri are in the game too. Thanks for pointing this out!

yeah the no mai no buy people can rejoice now i also hear that vice and king is in the game as well =D

    • z_merquise

Not only Mai, but Yuri and King as well! Believe it, true believer!

      • Artavasdus

There are still some six mystery fighters to be revealed, I am hyped as hell *__* I would like to see some new faces, but I will gladly take any returning character from the older entries (Eiji Kisaragi, Billy Kane and Oswald, please ;__;).

  • Jaxx-Leviathan

As long as I can be Andy I’m interested.

  • nyobzoo

yea, taking out Mai was a big mistake. It’s like if Capcom released a SF game now and didn’t have Chunli. It just wouldn’t feel right

    • Thus part of the reason why the first two versions of Street Fighter III were bad.

  • Vino21

I still fail to see the logic as to why she was absent from XII…

    • Artavasdus

She was absent even in KoF11 for that matter (even if she was added to the Ps2 port), after all she isn’t the series’ protagonist nor its main representative character, even if she has a fanbase (more for fanservice reasons than for her worth as a character, though).

  • thebanditking

Hooray! Now all I have to do is wait for the PS3 announcement, preorder and then wait for the release.

  • maxchain

KOF XII was also a complete mess. COINCIDENCE?

  • Artavasdus

Hopefully the emphasis on Mai’s presence should quench her fanbase’s cries of disappointment :P Personally I will day one KoF13 as soon as it is ported on hd consoles, despite its flaws I am still playing KoF12 with my friends and the revamped roster and battle system of 13 are going to keep me occupied for years (well, at least until KoF14 :P).

  • Here’s hoping they added an actual game this time… and not just a few characters that were missing. KOF XII was atrocious…

  • DerrickDnaruto

Mai, Yuri, and King all we need now is Shingo K’ and Rock!

    • fallen

      what’s k’ without kula?

  • masuto

Whoo-hoo! But too bad Hiroaki didn’t take part in it.

  • EvilAkito

This is great news. I’ll especially be quite happy to have Yuri back.

  • See? What did I tell you guys?! Mai would return for XIII!

Stupid SNK, lol. They should have realized it was a bad idea to take her out in XII :P

Oh well. Glad to see King is back too though. Might give Yuri a try again as well :)

  • Well, that’s three positive things they’ve done out of a list of about 50 they have to do. Let’s also hope to see Kula and K’ and a story and a boss and all the missing moves back and less pixelization and…

Yeah, they got a lot of work to do.

  • KOF12 was a bad game because the system was STUPID, a low roster count and “no-mai” was a secondary concern.

if KOF13 is a success, i’d thank the guy who revamped the engine and removed CRITICAL COUNTERS. Mai is strictly for PR.

SNK Marketing – Add a few characters and slap on an I.

    • Saturnus

What are they gonna do when XIV rolls around? Use poor roman numeral skills and call it XIIII?! what about XV? That’s taking off an I!

      • ndjn3979

All I know is that Mai’s getting old. In more ways than one.
