Cho Aniki Zero Gives PSN A Much Needed Dose Of Protein

By Spencer . March 26, 2010 . 3:41am

Cho_Aniki_Zero_17For a bunch of muscular guys, Cho Aniki Zero sure is quiet. The downloadable PSP game slipped on to PlayStation Network without a peep.

You can get the 2.5D, horizontal shooter from the US store now (right now!) for $19.99. If you haven’t seen the game in action before, watch this video of Benten blasting through the first stage in the Japanese version. Aksys’ release is, of course, in English.

Did you notice how you have to mash a button to continue?

I think I would say KIND OF in English…they didn’t bother translating any of the voices or text on screen during actual gameplay (including the continue screen). A physical copy would have been nice for some kind of liner notes or an explanation of the jokes if they weren’t going to completely finish it. While I appreciate the raunchy humour in the menus and whatnot, it just feels kind of slapped together for something they’ve been teasing us with for so long.

And while certainly not Aksys’ fault, it’s kind of frustrating that when you die you have to start all over again, even with the continue. I’m used to playing MAME shooters where I can just pop another ‘coin’ in and continue right where I left off.

  • Sorry. No Disc, No Deal! :)

Exactly, while I appreciate that Aksys localized such a niche game I want a physical copy for my money and won’t support dd-only releases.

Wow, I didn’t know the game is out already. That was…quiet.

  • Tokyo Guy

Wow, I never thought I’d see the day when this game was released in North America. I still remember WAY back in the day, discovering the game in EGM where they were going on and on about its homoerotic content.

$19.99 is a great price really, the Japanese version is full priced.

    • They probably got a nice case with a disc and manual. I’d play full price too if they released it properly.

  • Oh, it came as quietly as blazblue portable came, hey spencer you better do a lot of noise once agarest wars comes xD

Not directly related, but since this is a PSN story, let me add that “Adventures to Go”, a game you used to cover, also hit PSN yesterday.

Sort of a big deal because it was formerly a Gamestop exclusive and a little rare.
