Deathsmiles Release Date And Cosplay On Display At PAX East

By Spencer . March 29, 2010 . 12:12am

Aksys traveled all the way to PAX East to demo some of their games. Deathsmiles was there along with Windia, Casper, and Rosa cosplayers.

Tipster John swung by Aksys’ booth at the conference and played the English demo, which had “June 2010” printed above the monitors. An Aksys rep said that June 29 was the “hopeful” release date and a limited edition package is in the works. Aksys put together a clever package for Record of Agarest War. Wonder what they have in mind for Deathsmiles… an arcade stick would be nice.

Thanks for the tip and photo John!!

  • I think an Aksys rep. at their site mentioned about a stick, but nothing specific.

Also, according to Topherocious on Twitter, they held a tourney (“with triggers instead of buttons”) and the top two score winners get a faceplate.
And haha at Gail in the back! Wish I was there, too.

a soundtrack or faceplate would suffice for LE.. Rosa looks like a dude, actually Windia does too :(…

i would advise aksys against producing a special/limited edition unless it’s done in the style of blazblue’s where the limited edition was simply the first print run. though i truly want this game as a gamer, i am against higher-priced special editions as a consumer (an issue for another time). i think publishing this game is a risk, and i don’t want them taking any greater risks by creating a potential shelf-space killer that will be liquidated for half the price in six months, with aksys complaining that retailers didn’t sell through enough stock, and then saying they’re having a hard time justifying the localization of part two.

i know i sound all doom and gloom, but i want my shooters, and i’m just afraid that additional risks taken by publishers will add so much to the already existent risk, that i won’t get any more shooters. they need to keep the price and print run down to reasonable levels. the american perception of value with regards to shooters is very different from the japanese.

  • Id advise making the Limited Edition ACTUALLY LIMITED.

as of yesterday, my Frys Electronics still has Blazblue limited box bundles.

    • They may have been actually Limited… but this is BlazBlue you are talking about… a game that in all honesty is in a VERY niche gaming group… I love fighters… 2D fighters most of all… I am in that niche group… but in this day and age… your average gaming joe isn’t going to be picking up BlazBlue let alone BlazBlue LE.

      • in this “day and age”? you mean compared to the age of 2009?

aksys isnt the only one that does this, WoW Burning crusade LE boxes, persona psp LE boxes… aksys knows how much they’re expected to sell, yet they still overproduce their first print.

        • Oh I’m not saying that companies don’t overproduce LE’s. I’m just giving them the benefit of the doubt seeing it’s a 2D fighting game, maybe it just didn’t SELL.

    • It is limited. You just lucked out.

    Wait until anime expo…

    • Are you going? This is going to be my first year there – incidentally, there isn’t a whole of events or guests announced, but it’s still early. It’s so short, too. I thought it was open for the whole day or at least most of it, but it’s only on for about 6 hours…

I’m excited to go, though, and if they’re going to be there I’ll start counting down the days!

  • Thanks, Spencer for using my news/tip!
