Take A Look At These The Last Story Ships

By Spencer . March 30, 2010 . 2:25pm

imageNot airships. Regular sea sailing ships are shown in the latest batch of The Last Story concept art.

The producer explains, “The world within an island is extended with ships.” Ruli Island, an island with European architecture, is the game’s setting. Canals running through the island lead to the sea and teaches people to use ships to adventure further.

“When it comes to computer graphics, the feeling of ‘water’ is remarkably lovely,” says the director. You’ll see water in the castle, center of the city, caves (falling from waterfalls), and when the characters travel in the open sea.

While the blog doesn’t outright say this, it appears the mercenaries in The Last Story will travel the world in a ship just like classic Sakaguchi developed Final Fantasy games. “Vehicles for a fantasy world are an essential tool to get your heart racing with excitement,” said the producer.

  • I’ve always figured water (and human hair) was the most difficult thing to pin down when it come to CG.

That’s a nice ship. I’d love to try to make one of those bottle ships with something like that.

  • im highly intrigued with how much effort goes into this. Wii really hasnt seen a RPG quite up to par in a while.

This game keeps getting more and more amazing

    • Now if they’d only stop teasing us.

  • Aoshi00

This game cannot come soon enough. Lost Odyssey was great, but environment actually wasn’t its strong point, and here they have so many nice concept arts for Last Story. Pls let this be turn based and I’m happy :)

    • Pesmerga00

Yes, please be turned based. Nobody makes them for consoles anymore. This game has such promise. Art, music, the Gooch, I hope it doesn’t disappoint.

Best news post of the day.
Seriously, the more I hear about this game, the more I want to play it. Looks absolutely fantastic. :)

  • thaKingRocka

beautiful artwork. i’m really looking forward to this game. working my way through the backlog, but i think i may bump this game to the top of the list when it comes out. loved blue dragon. LO was less impressive for me, but those dreams were incredibly moving.

Sakaguchi appears to at last be playing his hand.

  • jj984jj

The art is all very nice Sakaguchi, but how about some screens and gameplay/credit details?

    • Aoshi00

Yeah, many games have good concept arts and all look incredible on paper. Just tell me it’s turn based and I’ll be fine because I know Sakaguchi can nail that.

      • jj984jj

I have a feeling it’s not, which is why gameplay details are all the more important!

        • Aoshi00

I think he’s baiting us.. like “ooh, nice environment, ooh, nice music” and then drop the bomb it’s some action RPG lol.. I hope the Gooch sticks to what he does best and concentrate on the story that makes us care. I want turn based since nobody makes them anymore. I hope we are wrong.

          • jj984jj

Turn-based would be best but I wouldn’t mind an action RPG, depending on the details. Xenoblade is already going for the MMO-style combat from the sounds of it so I doubt Nintendo would want Sakaguchi to make the same type of action RPG. I do not want a MMO-style or loot-whoring action RPG from Sakaguchi. The only thing I never want Sakaguchi to even try again though is a RTS RPG like Blue Dragon Plus. Blue Dragon could have been so much more if he hadn’t changed genres there. I’d prefer if he stayed away from the strategy genre more so than the action genre with this game actually.

          • Aoshi00

Yeah, the Blue Dragon brand was kind of ruined for me by the unrelated DS spinoffs (RTS, MMO), not to mention the horrible manga AND anime, really cheapened the name, while the whole time I just want Blue Dragon 2 on 360, is that too much to ask. I think his games should be mainly turn based, some strategy element is okay like Archaic sealed heat, how you place your troops on the map sharing action points per each turn, and how you upgrade your chars by sacrificing and absorbing the ash soldiers. But yeah, like you said, since there’s Xenoblade alrdy (if it’s MMO like I don’t care no matter how good it looks) I very much hope this would be an old school turn based RPG, along the line of BD and LO, I enjoyed them tremendously. There are enough action or strategic RPGs as it is…

One of the reasons I love Zelda: Wind Waker and Suikoden IV is because of the free-sailing on a ocean. I love exploring a sea chart for islands and what else might wait in the water. So this sounds like another enjoyable tidbit for me in Last Story. Wow, I’ll get really depressed if, when it does come out, it doesn’t deliver the magnificent expirience I expect.

beautiful, I hope E3 sheds some light on this title.
