Neptune: Compile Heart’s Moe Console Wars RPG

By Spencer . April 7, 2010 . 1:17am

imageRecord of Agarest War developer Compile Heart is about to announce Hyper Dimension Game Neptune, a console RPG where you control… game consoles.

Neptune is set in the video game business world where Neptune, the protagonist, has to thwart the Goddess Magicon. (note: Magicon are a term used for DS flash carts in Japan.) The twist is Neptune is a video game console, more specifically a moe personified video game console. Basically, you’re a console that can transform into a beautiful girl.

Other than the video game world setting, Neptune has all of the makings of a standard RPG – quests, dungeons, and leveling up.

Neptune is due in stores this summer in regular and limited edition packages. While the game has not been announced in North America, Compile Heart seems to be shopping for a publisher. At GDC, Neptune was on their behind closed doors product list.

Is the main character supposed to be a PS3? lol.

Weird, in that scan you can see other party members… and there is one with green hair.

    • MisterNiwa

Thats probaly Neptunes best friend, Uranus.

    • Saturnus

lol that’s what I thought, too.

      They’ve got my interest…

  • lol wtf 0.0 gotta see more

  • Mazen

I want this in English SOOO BAAAD!
I read that Sega is licensing their consoles and characters for this game too.

    • malek86

Awesome. I obviously want Saturn in my party.

If this isn’t coming to the US (could there be some problems with licensing from the western branches of different companies?), I’m going to just import.

      • ps2 must be the strongest of them all. maybe will be one of those characters that will pwn your party first and join later xD

        • malek86

You mean one of those characters that totally own your party as bosses, but when they join you, they are just as weak as every other member?

          I hate when it happens.

          • Those characters xD, lol and the accesories haha, for ps2 would be the wireless adapter, and new controllers maybe, the ps3 you can put the eye toy to get more accuracy >8O , HD cables! and dunno what else xD

        • Ereek

Oh, I don’t know. I was under the assumption that the PS2 would be our hero’s father while simultaneously being the “true” final boss.

    • thebanditking

No way! Are you serious!? If so I am buying this day one. Saturn, Dreamcast, Genesis and the Master System all turned into RPG characters its just too insane not to be cool. Hopefully Complie Heart wont screw this up and use the GameGear and have it turn into some Loli love interest.

Oh wow… that’s actually an idea I’m very interested in, game consoles as characters. This game has gotten a big + in my book just for that. I’m pretty sure the developers won’t officially name characters after existing consoles, like Sega Saturn and Playstation 2, what with rights and other legal stuff, not to mention that’d be bad style (imagine them making a Nintendo console a smallfry monster, that’d get some p*ss cooking). Sure, the rights-issue can be handled but I think that they’ll make up their own console-characters. Concerning Magicon and Ds flashcards it seems like coincidence to me, or it doesn’t necessary mean that the big boss has a connection with Nintendo DS.

    • malek86

Mind you, there’s no way at all Nintendo will ever give them the rights to feature their console in a PS3 game anyway. Even if they made the DS into the most powerful bonus boss ever, Nintendo would never accept it.

      • Jaxx-Leviathan

I agree, Nintendo wouldn’t give rigths to this. But when I said it could be handled, I was thinking about the rumor about Sega mentioned above by Mazen.

  • GameritisGuy

I wish Sega would bring over the console RPG Segagaga stateside. Now THAT was an RPG I would’ve wanted to play.

  • masuto

So it’s like playing Tama (Gintama)? I’m sold.

  • Ereek

    This sounds amazing.

  • thebanditking

Actually I think this is quite a creative story. Sounds a lot better then some boderline porno game with dripping ice cream cones and girls eating sweaty sausage on a stick.

    • Ereek

I’m way late here, but did you know that those CG images you’re mentioning from Agarest are less than 1% of the total game? They’re definitely not what the game is about. In fact, most of them are actually quite difficult to get and without a guide, you’ll likely only get 3-4 in a playthrough.

That said, this does sound more interesting than Agarest’s story.
