Level 5’s Top Secret Project Deals With Time Travel

By Spencer . April 13, 2010 . 10:47pm

imageWatch out Crono! Level 5 is developing a game with a time travel theme. They also roped in Jiro Ishii, the scenario writer from the critically acclaimed 428, to work on the game too.

In the Famitsu interview snippet circulating the net, Akihiro Hino, CEO of Level 5, says this work could be a popular series for Level 5. Even more intriguing is Hino says the game is being made for hardware that isn’t in this world, yet. A Nintendo 3DS title, perhaps?

And no, the game’s name was not disclosed. However, Level 5 has been proactive about trademarking titles related to time travel. Let’s see… in the Siliconera archives we have Time Machine People and Time Machine Story.

I think it will be Time Machine Story, very interesting! but they should at least gave a concept art or something.

  • Not surprised at all to see them preparing for the 3DS.

    • dusk

They should save the time travel idea for the 4DS. Isn’t the 4th dimension supposed to be time?

      • Chow

That’s one interpretation that I used to believe in. But it simply can’t be, given that even two- or one-dimensional universes would have time. And time in those universes would not be the next step up.

        • Time doesnt even exist in the first place

  • Back to the Dark Cloud 3

    It has to be!

Dark Cloud definitely has precedence with time travel, so it is possible it could be #3. If it is though, I’m going to be really bummed when it’s announced for the 3DS. I hate seeing a formerly console-only RPG series get dumbed down by being on a handheld. That isn’t always the case with handheld sequels, but it’s true for the vast majority of them.

      • Yeah. I know exactly what you mean. I see a lot of companies making sequels on PSP or DS now. Valkyria Chronicles 2 comes to mind :(

    • we can only hope :<

  • MisterNiwa

I remember when the name Time Travlers was registered, and i doubted and just said: HUHU, ITS MOST PROBALY PROFESSOR LAYTON.

Now i feel bad, and want to apologize. Sorry nasai.

  • Dark cloud 2 had time travel…. *sigh*… me want dark cloud 3

  • Sony owns the Dark Cloud IP, so it won’t show up on the 3DS.
Sadly it isn’t Dark Cloud 3, but I am looking forward to whatever titles Level 5 are working on.

  • wharcraff

Hmm. Maybe it will be a prequel of the the time of Doctor who. Yay!!
Well if it isn’t let’s hope this will have ‘The Master’ . >_<
