Ketsui Could Be Another Reason For Japan To Consider An Xbox 360

By Spencer . April 14, 2010 . 11:36am

Bayonetta is a multiplatform game so a hardware bundle may not sway Japan towards Microsoft’s console. Ketsui: Kizuna Jigoku Tachi Extra, like all of Cave’s games, is an Xbox 360 exclusive.

5pb is finally releasing the arcade to Xbox 360 conversion this month. It’s dated for April 22 and we hope it isn’t as buggy or controversial as DoDonPachi Dai ou Jou Black Label Extra.

X-Mode, a new mode created for the game is missing from the trailer. Retailer Game Star also notes worldwide leaderboards as a feature in Ketsui. Huh. That’s interesting. So far, Ketsui has only been announced for a single country, Japan.

So is this any different than the DS version?

    • http://denpanosekai.blogspot.com denpanosekai

VERY different. DS version is boss mode only.

      • http://gplus.to/rootbeerking RootBeerKing

Oh, I just thought the whole game was boss fights, lmao. Well then, I stand corrected.

Surprised you did not mention the poor Famitsu score (6/6/6/5), not that it should matter much to hardcore SHMUP fans.

Just for the sake of curiosity, do you happen to know the score for the other Cave’s recent titles?

Cave should just make their games region-free and have a publisher publish those versions. Don’t let ‘em mess with the code.

But they are still operating under the mantra: “Violator and subject to severe penalties and will be prosecutedt to the full extent of the jam”

OST still so good I wish I could afford to own it

to 5pb if you are listening: please talk to Valcon, UFO, or even Aksys (or anyone, frankly) about localizing this, thank you

    • http://denpanosekai.blogspot.com denpanosekai

To 5bp if you are listening: Thanks for your recent foray in the denpa music scene!!! MUCH APPRECIATED.

Is Valcon doing anything these days? They seemed genuinely interested in doing more SHMUPs. Guess they have no contacts outside of Success.

      • http://honorless.net honorless

Yeah, nothing of interest since RFA. I’m quite disappointed; I was kiiinda hoping they’d usurp UFO’s place as “the niche shmup localizer”.

…Maybe they’ll surprise us all with this or Radirgy Noa, though. I’ve got my fingers crossed.

I am getting the LE for the 2 OSTs, I sure hope it’s not as buggy as DDP DOJ w/ Cave keep saying they’re behind 5pb this time..

      • http://honorless.net honorless

Well, Arika did attempt a Ketsui PS2 port, so there might be code out there for some half-assed developer like Aqua Systems to steal and screw up!

…kidding. I think Ketsui 360 was developed in-house by 5pb, and the team in charge of DOJ 360 is supposed to be completely separate from the team that worked on it. (Maybe the same team they’ve now got working on that “original shooter” mentioned at Shooting Festa 2010?) So with any luck at all, it’ll be better…

        • Aoshi00

yeah, hope so since they’re doing a shooter themselves. Hikari-chan is demoing it in the next PlayxPlay on Inside Xbox, this Fri or Sat? So I guess we’d find out if there’s any loading then (but then they wouldn’t show you even if there is..). Guess Asada wouldn’t be there this time since this is not a Cave published game?

Now let’s be honest… anyone in Japan who might be swayed to buy a console for a Cave shooter surely already has one, right? With Espgaluda II, Mushihimesama Futari, Deathsmiles, and DDP:DOJ Black Label already (not to mention the non-Cave system exclusives like the Raiden games and G.Rev stuff), hardcore genre fans either already have the system or already know if they want it.

If we’re talking the flashier more current Cave arcade ports with a boatload of new modes and console tailored stuff like the redone sprites in Futari, Espgaluda II, and DS… maybe those have sold some systems. But not an older more bare bones port with fairly little reworking.

Ketsui isn’t gonna change anyone’s mind here – the people who already buy these kinds of games will buy it, and those who don’t won’t be converted. One thing that was already a sure thing is even more so now though – 360 is THE shooter system of this generation.

    • http://eonhack.blogspot.com theclaw

Yup. People tend to unfairly single out Cave. Games like Raiden 4 and Otomedius G were only on 360 as well.

Simply put, I don’t see any chance of Japan “going” for the 360 now, or ever. When you look at the general interest level among consumers here, coupled by the fact that the 360 is in the back corner of many stores, it truly compounds the gravity of Microsoft’s console situation here.

Whereas I might have seen the 360 taking off earlier last year IF there had been “must have” games for the Japanese gaming base, Sony’s release of the Slim PS3 put the final nail in the coffin for MS. Nothing short of a price cut to under 15,000 yen will move consoles.

All these shooting games and whatnot that are XBox-only are niche titles that will never make the market for MS. It needed something like Final Fantasy 13 as an exclusive title.

I got too many faceplates right now.. Blue Dragon/Infinite Undiscovery/Last Remnant/Magna Carta 2/Star Ocean 4/FFXIII/Espgaluda 2, so far none of them could knock off Magna Carta 2, maybe Deathsmiles’s would?I have an extra FFXIII and Espgaluda 2 faceplates (both are brand new and selaed) up on ebay, so for anyone who’s interested :)… price negotiable if you want to skip ebay.http://shop.ebay.com/aoshi00/m.html?_nkw=&_armr
