Square Enix Asks Fans To Tweet PlayStation Classics Wish Lists

By Spencer . April 16, 2010 . 11:36am

imageSquare Enix is now taking suggestions on which games should be re-released as downloadable PlayStation Classics or Game Archives titles in Japan.

An idea for a survey came from Twitter user VElearn and the Square Enix Members Twitter-master embraced it. Square Enix asked fans to tweet their top three requests with the hashtag #SEM_DL at the end.

After glancing at the preliminary results, fans appear to want Chrono Cross, Dragon Quest VII, and Legend of Mana.

  • Where the heck is my Xenogears?! Japan has it, I want it. This is not good at all.

    • BK0000

I doubt we’ll ever see Xenogears on the PSN. It would probably be too much trouble for them to try to fix all the freezing bugs the game has when it’s being emulated.

      • graywolf323

why would you think that? Xenogears is on the Japanese PSN store and runs just fine emulated

        • BK0000

Have you ever played Xenogears on a PS2 or PS3? There are two or three places where the game crashes. The English version of the game doesn’t like being emulated.

          • Kunio_kun

^ How is that the case? Didn’t the PS2 have the PS1 hardware built in and not use emulation???

  • malek86

    Chrono Cross, goddammit.

  • Zeik56

Xenogears is the only game I really want to see, since it’s the only one I don’t own that I’ve been wanting to play.

Though of the choices there Chrono Cross definitely deserves to go up the most.

  • kupomogli

Tactics Ogre Let Us Cling Together and Ogre Battle March of the Black Queen. Since they own the franchise now. Tactics Ogre is the best game on any system.

  • zhemos

Threads of Fate please. One of the games I always wanted to play but never got to.

  • evilmoogle

    Legend of Freakin’ Mana.

  • anbu

I don’t know why they still do this. It’s no brainer to bring Xenogears and Vagrant Story to US Psn.

There is also Parasite Eve 1 and 2.

  • How many Siliconera regulars can you spot jumping on http://twitter.com/#search?q=%23SEM_DL?

Edit: Trawling the archive list (http://www.square-enix.com/jp/game/psga/) to see if SFC or PS2 titles were covered and ran across the Agito site. (http://www.square-enix.co.jp/fabula/agito13/)

I’m so behind on the news.

  • puchinri

Well that list looks pretty damn perfect. I really hope they make them downloadable (and we’ll get them downloadable too~?).
It would be nice to see Threads of Fate on that list too, though.

  • Parasite Eve.
    Paaarasiiiite Eeeeeeveeee…..

  • Ereek

I see no Dragon Quest VII.

I’d buy it again, even though my physical copy is fine.

    • BK0000

You’ll probably get a DS port of VII before it’s on the PSN.

      • Ereek

Have you played VII? I don’t even think that game will fit on the DS, unless it takes a severe hit to graphical and sound quality. It’s about three or four times as long as Dragon Quest V.

Edit: Though, I agree. I can’t really see it coming to PSN.

        • BK0000

I played about half of it and got so bored with it that I quit.

  • Parasite eve!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Dragon Quest VII, I would totally purchase. I still have the PS1 discs for Parasite Eve, Xenogears, Chrono Cross, etc… Never picked up Dragon Quest VII, though, so that would be great to see on the Playstation Store.

  • neo_firenze

I can get behind the current favorites, which include the two I’d really want:

    * DQVII would definitely be on my list.
    * Legend of Mana would work quite well in a portable format, with the design of individual quest chunks lending itself well to portable.

For my third choice, CC is fine. I like the game. If I really had to think about it might go with something else first. Maybe Front Mission 3 or Parasite Eve? But I’d have no issue with CC.

I don’t think there’s much point in mentioning FFIX, as it seems to be a sure thing for PSN release anyway. Since this poll is for Japanese PSN, SaGa Frontier 1 or 2, Brave Fencer Musashi, Vagrant Story, and Einhander aren’t mentioned (they’re already out in Japan for PSN). I’d never have a problem with those getting NA PSN releases though.

  • CoolChibi

Brave Fencer Musashi, Vagrant Story, and Threads of Fate please!

  • bugmeknot

RE3 now that Square Enix is now Eidos Square Enix?

The whole “different publisher in each region” thing plays havoc with digital re-releases. Look at the latest Demon’s Souls mash up, that’s going to be a pain to negotiate contracts if PS3 games ever become “downloadable classics” on future playstations.

  • holyPaladin

Yes CC and Legend of Mana please!

  • vall03

Threads of Fate, Vagrant Story, Xenogears, Brave Fencer Musashi and Parasite Eve

  • Bushido Blade (never saw it appear on the US store, only Japan’s :/)

But seriously..Japanese though? Okay, hmmm…how about Parasite Eve? Don’t really care for the second one, but the first would be great to add!

It will give a lot of the new guys a chance to take a step back back in time and see how a good game plays! You know, the guys who wasn’t even around during the PS1 days, lol.

Give us Aya Brea nao :3

  • Tokyo Guy

I love how they release crap like Soukagi (at least in Japan) and whatnot yet have totally ignored their GOOD games like Chrono Cross or even the original Musashi. And of course BOTH Parasite Eve games.

You know it’s sad that things like common sense are totally alien to companies like this. I mean they actually need people to tell them to upload games that were so successful Square itself RERELEASED them as part of the Square Millennium Series, and then AGAIN later? Geez…

  • Bushido Blade! Gameplay based on either the first or second game!
Just imagine using Move on that.

  • Billy Añonuevo

Vagrant Story and Chrono Cross on the US PSN, ’nuff said.
