The King Of Fighters XIII Screenshots Have A Bit Of Mai

By Spencer . April 27, 2010 . 11:55am

Fighting fans, we know you’re busy with Super Street Fighter IV, but take a moment out of oil sliding and rising hawk countering to look at the next major fighting game from SNK. There are pictures of Mai…

Yuri and King, also from the ’94 women’s team, are playable characters in The King of Fighters XIII. In other words, SNK is coating the game with a fanservice glaze. Will that be enough to get fans back after The King of Fighters XII?

  • That King, I don’t mind that King at all. I will pick this up if they gave me Vanessa though. Also, its funny how XII was just a $60 sampler to what was to become XIII. :( (No, it really was not funny at all.)

You’re right it’s NOT funny at all

I dunno, I’m not completely sure I’d call the added females JUST fanservice.

I was playing XII just the other day and it struck me how few female characters there are. Athena and Leona were the only two of the twenty characters in the arcade original (though Mature and Elizabeth were added for the console release). Seemed unusual to me since from KoF’96 on, the series has usually featured quite a few female characters.

So 4 of the 6 newly announced characters being female kinda makes sense to me to balance things up a bit (Vice, Mai, King, Yuri, along with the two new males Takuma and Hwa Jai).

K’, Maxima, Kula for the last new team seems to be the rumor too…

    • No way on gods green early can they NOT put K’ in. Originally for XII him and Mai were rumored to be DLC… we see what happened. If K’ is gone I cant completely my TEAM! I need Joe, K’, and Vanessa.

      • there were supposed images lifted from the official site that said K’ Team

      • MisterNiwa

        I need Kim, K’ and Kula. >:I

  • The King has returned!
I missed Yuri, too. Love her icon at the top!

  • Okay, this is definitely a step in the right direction. Need to see K’ and Kula before I decide to pick this one up, though.

    • MisterNiwa

      I feel you, bro.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from SNK’s history, it’s that they like to spend money. However, when they don’t have money to spend, they put out relatively bad KoF games (like XII or Neowave) so they can get money to spend on good games (like XIII [hopefully] or XI). I’ve got a feeling that XIII is going to be good. Also, the addition of the Woman Fighters team implies that we’ll have some good theme music in this game. They always have good themes.

Have you been to the official Japanese site? The themes on there are nice. I think they’re clips. But overall, really nice so far.

Was it my imagination, or didn’t earlier footage/screenshots of this game feature Yuri in mid-thigh high socks that were the color of her signature pants? It seems they changed it back to the original pants, unless I was imagining it all.

    • I saw that too. Maybe alternate outfits? Which would be a waste, when you think about it, as they might as well animate a whole new character if they’re going to do that.

    • Kris

You’re right! I liked those, where did they go? :(

  • ElTopo

It bugs me how much this game seems to live or die by what characters are selected from its absurd roster.

Really I would just like to see the presentation cleaned up from XII, the gameplay balanced out, and the overall feel of the game polished up. If they can do all that then I’ll pick it up.

  • CrimsonFlamesX

We have Vice back. Now we’re just waiting for the last team to be confirmed.

Vanessa and Blue Mary have to comeback. They’re still looking for “This of the Distant past”(From the Distant Past?) I forgot…Someone correct me If I’m wrong. I hate giving out bad info, lol.

The game is looking good. Miles ahead of XII.
