Are You Ready For RayStorm HD?

By Spencer . April 28, 2010 . 12:35pm

It’s alright if you forgot about RayStorm HD entirely. Taito announced it last August. After the reveal the HD remake of RayStorm quietly faded into the background. By the way… it’s coming out next week.

Square Enix announced May 5 as RayStorm HD’s launch date on Xbox Live Arcade and May 6 for PlayStation Network. The game costs 1,200 Microsoft Points or 1,500 yen respectively. Basically, RayStorm HD costs around $15. While these dates have only been announced for Japan, almost all Xbox Live Arcade titles are released worldwide simultaneously. Unless RayStorm HD is an exception like Shotest Shogi, this is what you can expect to play in a few days.

  • Oh.

Holy @$%! that snuck up on me. I was so focused on other titles that I forgot about this gem.

    Hells yea, I’m stoked.

And if you have a BC PS3, Raystorm on Taito Legends 2 won’t look too much less impressive on your HDTV due to upscaling. If you own a 360(and if Taito Legends 2 can play on a 360,) Raystorm unfortunately only comes on the PS2 version of TL2.

If you have a PC, Raystorm can be played on that too. It should probably look even better than the upscaled PS2 version. That’s why I keep around an old, 640×480, 14″ CRT. You can’t get much better than that for Mame and DOS/W95 games.

Just for the note.. PSN version seems to be for japan only for whatever reason. Saw that on the Square-EnixDLG twitter

    • Ridiculous.

I forget, but is the PSN updating to the new date only in select regions? The date listed is a Thursday, but that happens to be the week that [at least] North America switches to Tuesdays. And yes, this is directly responding to the mention that this is Japan-only, (so don’t anybody point out that out ;) ).

But then, doesn’t the Japanese PSN always update “whenever”? I know when I check it, they have latest release dates staggered all over the place.

    • WHAT?! NOOOOOOOOOOOoooooo~! Looks like I’ll be buyin’ another Japanese PSN card then…

  • Another HD rehash instead of a proper sequel.
    Thank you so much.

The thing I like is that XBLA games are released worldwide really close, so this means Guwange!

  • Am I ready? Not for $15.

    • yeah, they lost me at $15 maybe $10…
