Record Of Agarest War Sets Record For PSN Pricing

imageIf you have an Xbox 360, you can get Record of Agarest War with a naughty mousepad right now. Aksys is also releasing the game plus all of the downloadable content as a bonus on PlayStation Network this Thursday.

How much does it cost? $44.99, which makes Record of Agarest War the most expensive PlayStation Network exclusive in North America. At that price you might want to be familiar with the story before buying. Here’s what Aksys has to say about the game’s prologue.

War darkened the skies of Agarest. Not a simple war between mortals, easily ended by divine intervention, but a war that split the gods themselves. Armies such as the world had never seen before, and would never see again, clashed in the skies of Agarest, across its surface, and even in the caverns that wound their way through its interior.

As is the way in war, many died on both sides, gods and mortals alike, and the war left Agarest broken, blackened, and dead. The gods wept for their paradise, and in a final act of creation, sacrificed themselves to bring life back to its charred and twisted surface.
Although the gods are long dead, the withering darkness that began and fueled their war is not. Imprisoned for millennia, its bonds have begun to weaken, and as they do, a shadow once again spreads across the surface of the world.

Born into this world perched unknowingly on the brink of the apocalypse, a young man by the name of Leonhardt and his descendants are the last, best hope for Agarest. Their journey will span generations and continents as they strive to once again bring peace to their beleaguered world, even as the cost of their own souls

You need a chunk of hard drive space for Record of Agarest War too. The final game clocks in at 10 gigabytes.

  • “Aksys is also releasing the game and all of the downloadable content for free on PlayStation Network this Thursday.”

Makes it sound like the game’s free too. I was getting ready to be upset after paying $60 for it :p

    • Tofuuu

Yea… my hopes were raised when I saw that line too but it sounded too good to be true — a $45 game having a promotional “FREE DOWNLOAD DAY!”

I went around doing some research on the internet and you helped clarify it for me hahaha XD Had to read that sentence a hundred times over just to see that my interpretation was wrong =P Darn, no hentai-esque-innuendos for me anytime soon.

  • nyobzoo

10gb!!!! Holy, guess I won’t be playing this anytime soon

  • 10GB ROM vs. 12mbps connection!

    Thursday! Thursday! Thursday!

    • For people that want to know, got it yesterday with said connection in 2 1/2 hours. Took ~20 minutes to install. 18 TOTAL GB of hard drive space IS required for this to work. Fortunately I have a 160GB in my PS3 now so this was not an issue. After install, the original download of ~9228MB will be deleted off the drive but you do need about 18 to do all of this.

10 gigs? I’ve read that the maximum size of a 360 disc for actual game data is 6.8 gigs. Maybe this is a dumb question, but assuming the games have identical content where did the extra data come from? Better compression on the 360?

    • Pretty sure there are a lot of things that were downgrade for quality and compressed a lot more for the 360 version. The PS3 disc version the EU got was 15+ gigs if I recall correctly.

      • nyoron

Huh, interesting. I guess once I get my hands on the 360 version I’ll compare it to my EU PS3 version and see if I notice a difference.

  • Gestahl

    $45! Damn….

  • matteuccio

does anyone know if the xbox version is region lock or region free ?

    • shaffy_oppa

Region locked. tried it on their PAL 360s.

    • It won’t play on PAL systems, although I heard a rep. at the forums saying something Asian systems – you might want to check to be sure or ask.

      • malek86

        Aksys, I am disappoint.

    • nyoron

I can confirm that it works on a Japanese 360 at least, I tried it just now.

      • Wow, really? I know someone from Japan asked if this game being able to play on Japanese 360s. Maybe I should try to contact him/her and let them know.

    • Free DLC is for PS3 only, so sayeth the Aksys forums.

Considering what Disgaea PS3 was with DLC, 44.99 is a friggin’ steal for something in the same vein.

      • Yes, i was expecting something between 40$ and 50$, and it was just between =P, ahh i want tomorrow to come already!

  • Kris

So it’s $45 plus a new hard drive, for me then. :p

  • cowcow

I wish it had 3D cel shaded non midget characters and fully animated story scenes

  • speedstersonic

They are not releasing ALL of the dlc this thursday. I don’t know where you got that information Spencer.

  • Hmph. Well, as I said in the other thread, the impression of bias generated by the 360 extras put me on the fence about this game. The price is about $5 more than I was willing to spend on this, but I dunno. May still eventually pick it up when I get some extra cash. The size of the download isn’t a problem for me. It’s the principal of it. Will see, I guess…

  • Marcus70

Wow! $44.99 was the exact price I paid for importing the PS3 EU version last year. I think I’ll pass on buying the PSN version and Xbox 360 limited edition doesn’t interest me at all. Too bad Aksys doesn’t know how to market this game.

  • Xeahnort

Here in Europe, the retail version of Agarest Senki cost only 20 € ($27).

    • malek86

Really? I can’t find it anywhere for less than 30€. If I found it at 20€, I’d buy it immediately.

      • Xeahnort

        Try searching on

        *sorry for spamming

  • Makes one wonder why they make the DLC different for the two versions.

Disc wise Aksys has made a better deal for Xbox users, but that is payed in full for with DLC?

    WTF Aksys?

Not a good choice anywhere except releasing it.

But oh well. If it´s the usual stuff with packs of PP and such I don´t really need it. Neither do I need the items.

I would have been great though if the DLC was free for both consoles.

Now I just have to wait for my Xbox 360 version to arrive.

    • Wow, 360 owners, who got the better deal in the first place, are actually complaining that the PS3 gets thrown a bone? Wow.

      • I do complain that the PS3 isn´t getting the naught extras as well :p

So I complain about both versions getting stuff that the other isn´t receiving.

        • malek86

That sounds like a strategy to have people buy both versions!

        • Still, it did compel me to finally make my decision towards purchasing the PS3 version.

  • masuto

Oh well, it can’t be helped. I do have cable connection and a 160gb hard drive. Might as well buy the game to help push the release of Agarest War Zero…and hope that Zero will be full retail disk.
