Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker Has No Shortage Of Advertising

By Spencer . May 6, 2010 . 5:26pm

imageKonami knows Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker will be one of their biggest titles this year. If Japan wasn’t aware of that they are now.

Konami bought a massive ad campaign that plastered Shinjuku and Shibuya’s train stations with Peace Walker posters and monitors. That’s a scene from Shinjuku’s south entrance on the right.

This is Shibuya, by the Hachiko entrance.

Visit the Kojima Productions blog for more pictures and the lyrics to Heaven’s Divide.

On top of commuter commotion, there’s this TV ad.

So, one boy is trying to tell the girl he likes her. The other boy sneaking around in the box interrupts and says, “please, enter my cardboard box.” The girl looks back and says, “cardboard box?” But, the box boy really wants the boy to play Peace Walker with him. Unlike other Metal Gear Solid games, Peace Walker is designed for teens with a CERO B rating in Japan and a T from the ESRB in North America.

And yes it still got outsold by a spin off of a spin off sequel to DragonQuest…oh japan.

      That’s because DQ > MG.

I personally disagree. The Dragon Quest games have never really kept me interested. While they are incredibly well designed, they’ve always felt almost too old-fashioned for me to enjoy. It’s a shame too, because most of the time, I enjoy old-school JRPGs. I’ve tried to enjoy them, but I can never really get into them. Maybe it’s because I’m not really a Toriyama fan and don’t really invest myself in the characters.
Metal Gear, despite all of the crazy subplots and long cinematics, always seems to do something different with each game, and that’s part of the reason that I’m always so excited for them.

Have you tryed DQ 5? that is a master piece, best story of all DQ in my opinion

        • Aoshi00

It’s funny Toriyama drew “Sandland” in 2000 and there was DQ XIII (& PS6) in it, I guess we’re getting there.. I bet the game would still be pretty much the same when it’s DQ XX. I loved Toriyama’s art, I just want them to make “Chrono Break” w/ his design instead of all these countless DQ and Blue Dragon spinoffs.. Chrono 3 and Blue Dragon 2, is that too much to ask?

I hope the comment above of DQ > MG is a joke.. Definitely like the MGS series, I love it when games weaves reality and alternate history into its story/time-line, like MGS and Shadow Hearts.

The ad above is pretty funny, so the cardboard box really could fit in two people :)..

Nope, I was for real. Dragon Quest is superior to Metal Gear, in my opinion.

        • Hraesvelgr

That’s okay, the DQ series isn’t for everyone. Likewise, I can’t say I’m too fond of Toriyama’s art and I do end up making fun of how unoriginal his characters look, and not just in the DQ series.

        No. :/

Rofl, i get and dont get this, DID THE BOY LIKE THE GIRL BUT!! TO MAKE THE DUDE STOP TELLING THE GIRL HE LIKES HER , HE ASKED HIM TO PLAY WITH HIM!? or IS THE GIRL HIS SISTER AND HE IS TRYING TO PROTECT HIM WITH THE POWER OF METAL GEAR!?

Too many possibilities, so short time…
