Capcom Expects To Sell 2 Million Copies Of Marvel Vs. Capcom 3

By Spencer . May 10, 2010 . 1:30am

imageCapcom’s multi-million seller sense is tingling. When Marvel vs. Capcom 3 comes out in spring 2011, Capcom expects to sell two million copies of the crossover fighting game worldwide.

But, that’s nothing compared to their expectations of Monster Hunter Freedom 3. Capcom plans to move 3.6 million units when it launches in late 2010 in Japan alone. While no overseas publishing plans have been announced, sales should be higher when the game inevitably heads West.

Worldwide sales of Dead Rising 2 are a bit lower at 3 million. Lost Planet 2, which comes out this week, is another planned double platinum title with 2.2 million units in sales worldwide.

These figures are from Capcom’s fiscal year 2010 plan. Too high for Dead Rising 2? Too low for Marvel vs. Capcom 3? Have your say in the comments.

I’d expect a little more than 2 million. Maybe 2.5 million.

Two millions for MvsC3 sounds about ok, maybe a bit high but we’ll see. 3.6 millions for MHF3 seems feasible, but in late 2010 alone it might be difficult. 3 millions for DR2 sounds a bit too much, unless they seriously advertise the crap out of it. LP2 is feasible, but maybe bad word of mouth will hurt sales, if reviews are anything to go by (which is weird, because I liked the demo enough).

MvC3 Worldwide? >.> I think thats actually a little bit lower than expected. There’s gonna be probably more than a few people grabbing this for both consoles. Any serious fighting game player will probably do so.

I hope the fan dumb would not prevent this from happening, now that they’re bitching, whining, moaning, and groaning about the game’s controls.

Whats going on with the controls?

      • http://www.youtube.com/B4ULoveShine Tim_at_where

The fan dumb has been complaining about the controls, which they compared with Tatsunoko VS Capcom’s, even though Capcom USA already went on record that Fate of Two World’s controls will be based on JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure’s controls + 2 assist buttons. Regardless, the fan dumb want the SNK LP-LK/HP-HK set-up in a CAPCOM game.

Now, if only you knew the bad blood/rivalry between SNK & Capcom…

And if Marvel vs. Capcom 3 sells any less, even 1,999,999 copies? Capcom unveils their new logo: Amaterasu and Viewtiful Joe’s severed heads, complete with tongues sticking out and Xs for eyes.

i think it will sell regardless of the controller issue, and i don’t think dumbing it down is going to attract any newer people. honestly the characters in the game does that job.

Lost Planet 2 was adjusted down significantly btw, Capcom’s previous expectation was 3.7 million (lol). I guess Bionic Commando and Dark Void both bombing have tempered their wild HD expectations.

MVC3 seems a little low (I’d throw out maybe 2.5m) and Dead Rising way too high (2m max). LP2 and MHP3 both seem about right.

  • shion16

too high for dead rising 2 and lost planet 2
too low for marvel vs capcom 3
and monster hunter freedom 3rd…..that always is going to be too low

  • http://www.mengsbizarreadventure.com Mengplex

Id say higher than 2m for MVC3, purely because marvel characters are more common names nowadays with all the films and such.
Lost planet 2 at 2.2m is very optimistic.
The only accurate figrue id say is Dead Rising 2

Well I canceled my Lost Planet 2 pre-order this past weekend after all the comments about the lacking single-player experience. I’ve still got Dead Rising 2 pre-ordered and I’ll be holding off on MvC3 until it is cheaper unless Capcom wises up and fixes the UGLY donkey art-style of the game.

      Not gonna happen lol
