Will El Shaddai: Ascension Of The Metatron Step Up The Action Genre By Simplifying It?

imageEl Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron isn’t one of Ignition’s localized games. This is an internal project with Devil May Cry monster designer, Sawaki Takeyasu, tied in as the director.

 

This week’s issue of Famitsu introduces the game and main characters. Enoch (in the white) is the lead character. The Gods have chosen him to be a hero. Lucifer (in the black) is an angel with red eyes who watches the fate of the world.

 

El Shaddai will have simple controls and only use a few buttons. Another interesting difference is enemies don’t have life bars. You know an enemy is hurt or damaged when their armor falls of.

While El Shaddai is an action game, Takeyasu wants players to feel immediately comfortable playing it. He wants to get rid of complexity and make this game feel intuitive. By the end of the game, Takeyasu wants people to feel like they’re better at playing the game rather than being more powerful.

 

El Shaddai: Ascension of the Metatron with its Shin Megami Tensei-esque feel will be released on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 this year. Since this is from Ignition we’re counting on El Shaddai being in their booth at E3.

    It definitely has the SMT feel to it, through the art style, story, and of course, characters.

    That alone makes it a “worthwhile to watch” for me. But I don’t want to support Ignition in any way, so I’m conflicted.

      I feel exactly the same. The game looks neat, but the fact that Ignition is making it means that Ignition is localizing it, too. :(
      Then again, they did develop Deadly Premonition…

        Bad news They didn’t localize nor develop Deadly Premonition they just published it, but still this game looks great.

          Yeah, that’s right Marvelous and Access Games (Spy Fiction) did. But, intentional or not, the budget localization gave Deadly Premonition its charm.

            Its speaks alot about Ignition when you see how Marvelous did a cheap budget localization and it was millions of times better than all Ignition localizations.

    Lucifer AGAIN? He’s in everything now! He doesn’t even have boobs this time! Lame!

    No, but seriously, looks cool, like the designs, calling the main character Goldilocks from now on, who the hell named this game, etc. Also, yeah, Ignition is walking a fine line with me at this point–they’d have to dramatically get their act together for me to support them over developers / publishers that actually deserve it.

    I do think 3d action games need way more intuitive controls. I’m interested.
