Half-Minute Hero’s Side Scrolling Spiritual Successor

Opus Studio, the creators of Half-Minute Hero, have another second hand watching RPG for PSP in development, Jikande Fantasia is a quite different from their last game.

For starts, Jikande Fantasia is a side scrolling action RPG like Faxanadu or The Adventure of Link. You guide three characters – a hero (male/female), Kotaro (a spear wielding childhood friend), and Canna (she throws axes) through Jikandia (time-dia) in randomized dungeons. The twist is you set the time limit. The amount of time determines what kind of treasures you’ll find, dungeon length, and the strength of the boss. Button events, Jikande Fantasia’s take on special attacks, have their own time limit. You can press R to activate a battle changing button event , but you have to use it before time runs out.

After completing a dungeon players return to town where they can buy new equipment or power up their characters with magicons before heading into another mini-maze.

Idea Factory is publishing Jikande Fantasia and have it slated for release this summer. No plans for an international release have been announced, but Idea Factory is proactive about getting their titles outside of Japan. If Spectral Force Genesis can find a way out of Japan Jikande Fantasia should be able to as well.

  • Do want.
I’ve been in the mood for more sidescrolling RPGs lately, thanks Opus.

  • I was all “can’t wait for this one, I really think it’ll get localized and if it does I’ll day one it!”

…but that link at the bottom about Spectral Force Genesis made me remember that Ignition might be the publisher to pick it up. :(

Damn you for mentioning that. I was trying to be optimistic about this one, too! I know XSEED is extremely busy with Falcom titles, but I’d still like them to get this, too.

  • EvilAkito

Definitely want! I love side-scrolling action RPGs.

  • If this can pull me away from La-Mulana, I’m all for it.

  • kupomogli

RPG should be left out. This is an action platformer, not an RPG. RPG is being thrown around way too loosely. Looks decent though.

Anyways. No idea why it popped in my head as this is a platformer and Rolan’s Curse is an adventure, but I’d really love to see another Rolan’s Curse.

  • final fantasy is the best one i played so far.

    cute looking game.

  • trickylove

I do love Half Minute Hero (I need to play it some more) So I hope this one is just as good.

  • My kind of game. And looks very import friendly.

  • doesnt look anywhere near as good as half minute hero, but i guess i’ll have to play it first
