Proton Cannon Fires Off First Marvel Vs. Capcom 3 Screenshots

By Spencer . May 27, 2010 . 2:09am

Capcom posted a batch of Marvel vs. Capcom 3 media with commentary from Ryota Niitsuma, the game’s producer.

Marvel vs. Capcom 3’s style is “moving comics” and has paper tearing special effects. Niitsuma explains these were made since comic books were originally published as books. Below you’ll see some familiar moves like Iron Man’s Proton Cannon and newcomer Chris Redfield firing a shotgun.

Loved the screenshots. This may be better then I though!

  • cmurph666

    Oh man that’s damn sexy.

  • capristrider

In-game Hulk looks very green (in american sorta way), yet in the capcon artwork Hulk is light pastel green/jade (in a japanese sort way)

  • Kris

Tron Bonne is in the background of the shot where Ryu is throwing a hadouken at Wolverine. :(
She was my favorite character in MvC2 and now she’s unplayable.

  • masuto

Hmm…I don’t like it for some reason.

      C’mon now, aren’t PS360 owners all about graphics? :p

Oog-f’in-ly. Oogly! Dear Capcom, please fix this game not to look like a shadowy mess, it doesn’t look appealing at ALL. Every previous game in the series dating all the way back to X-men Vs. Street Fighter was nice and bright and colorful. This looks horrid.

I’m really not seeing the “moving comics” filters in place from these screen shots. Yes, they’re static but I expected a much more comic (paper perhaps) texture to the graphics. They seem too clean. Early days though…

    • Jellybit

Not THAT early. They started development back in 2008 on an established engine.

  • DerrickDnaruto

Anybody else think the hulk looks outta place…..?

    • Jellybit

Both Hulk and Ironman look very “CG”, compared to the others. This game doesn’t seem to have anything near the artistic vision/cohesion that SF4 had.

      • FireCouch

Lol, artistic vision. Yes, apemen are very artistic.

        • Jellybit

I didn’t say everyone likes the vision they had on SF4, but there certainly was a clear one. That’s respectable. And for the record, apemen can be artistic. You should check out art some time. It covers a lot of subjects/styles.

To me Iron Man and (especially) Hulk stand out stylistically, resembling something like mid-nineties CGI. Maybe they’re not finished, as the others look more acceptable.

Tron Bonne will be missed if she’s now just a background cameo. :(

    • DerrickDnaruto

The only character that actually looks decent is Chris the rest looks like there off of that super hero squad show.

      • cowcow

        my thoughts exactly. They look……weird

  • urbanscholar

These early screens look nice but I’ll wait a year later when its finished to pass on judgment.

  • pressstart

Awwwwkward… stance for Iron Man. It didn’t look that weird in the old games.

These look great. Can’t wait for this game!
