Nintendo Cuts DSi And DSi XL Price

By Spencer . June 1, 2010 . 10:29pm

Nintendo, preparing for the launch of the Nintendo 3DS, announced a price drop for the two current Nintendo DSi models in Japan.

Starting on June 19, the Nintendo DSi will retail for 15,000 yen ($164) instead of 18,900 yen ($207). A Nintendo DSi XL will cost 18,000 yen ($197) or 2,000 yen ($22) less than the current price.

Blue, yellow, and green DSi XL are in the pipeline too. A selling point for color coordinators, but the Nintendo 3DS is right around the corner and scheduled to make its debut this fiscal year.

Is this price cut because no one is buying one due to the release of the 3DS in the near future? I’m interested in the 3DS but after seeing the size of the XL screen, I want a 3DSXL.

  • I’ve wanted a mint green, but beggars can’t be choosers. At least it’s not pea green. Bwee~ Do want!

Yeah I wanted a blue one. Heck, I would have settled for White but nooo… The US gets wine red and dark brown… wth? Nintendo should have made more colors available at launch.

  • So I’m thinking…$149.99 USD for DSi, $169.99 USD for DSi XL in the States?

  • I would’ve gotten the blue one but I won my DSI XL (dark brown) for £90 on ebay.

no point. Just wait for the new one

The yellow one is really quite lovely. But I’m quite happy with my matte black DSi…until the 3DS arrives, in yellow.

It’s strange how that picture shows Japanese phoneticization of the English names of the colors.
