Why Is Microsoft Visiting Kojima Productions?

imageMetal Gear Solid mogul Hideo Kojima tweeted and photographed a meeting with two Microsoft employees.


“Mr. Urata and Mr. Yonekura from Microsoft, Kojima Productions visit. I have a presentation to do,” Kojima posted on Twitpic. What kind of presentation? Perhaps, showing them Metal Gear Solid: Rising or Castlevania: Lords of Shadow. Both of those are multiplatform games coming out of Kojima Productions.

      I hope it’s something exclusive. Not because I want something to be 360 exclusive, but because I love the seething rage that seems to come only from fanboys with shareholder level fanaticism.

      Me too. I played several hours of Peace Walker and kind of lost interest, control too frustrating… I just want to kick some butt w/ Raiden’s (or Raiden-like guy) feet when he’s doing a heliocopter :) Just give us an epic story worth of the MGS name Kojima!

        It’s all right. I might not understand how you feel, but… I think it’s all right.

        I doubt MGS:R will have an epic story nor a MGS style gameplay.
        I think it might turn out to be NINJA GAIDEN SOLID.

          At least it would be pretty cool to pull off those crazy chest stabbing moves Raiden pulled on Vamp in MGS4’s cutscenes right :) And we need more in-game codec conversations dang it! I’m not sure how this would turn out, but there’s a lot they could do w/ Rising. Peace Walker was a major let down for me and I loved MGS 1-4. Many things just don’t work right due to PSP’s limitation (no 2nd analog stick for one thing), and the design w/ primarily co-op in mind messes up the single player gameplay royally, imbalanced boss fights w/o the option to adjust difficulty (MGS 1-4 all have easy modes, I wish to play PW on easy too, mostly due to the cumbersome control), I really regret importing it… maybe David Hayter would liven up the game a bit in the US ver but I canceled the pre-order for now. I had a feeling a portable game wouldn’t truly be MGS5 even if they claim it to be… and I don’t dig the Ashley wood storyboard-like motion comic either… also the stealth part in PW isn’t so fun for me anyway, the environment is so small… maybe I’m like the only one who doesn’t like that game :(..

          Ninja Gaiden is pretty good, but I hate the monsters, really. Why not fight other super ninjas ONLY? It kinda kills the mood for me. And if that’s what the mood is supposed to be about, then I hate it as well. I like the game though, have both Sigmas!

          But Rising… Oh man, if they do it right? Awesome.

          Acrobatic jumps and cinematic gameplay? By all means.
          Tenchu stealth kills? Please.
          Zero Shift Raiden? Yes, thank you.
          Turning giant and not so giant robots into sliced metal?
          BADASS cutscenes? (even if they are 935 hours long, I don’t care)

          Need I say more?

          Oh, also those smooth cutscene-to-gameplay transitions from 4, those were really good (reminded me of Vagrant Story).

            *drool…* good pitch of ideas. yea, Raiden was pretty, forget it make it extremely, badass in MGS4… I’m w/ you, amazing looking hours long cutscenes sure beat storyboard animatics, that’s what I loved about MGS1-3 (especially 3).

            Oh, yes he was! But Kojima said he was going to change people’s opinion about Raiden and he did (mostly, I suppose). Not that he needed to change mine, at least not after he got the High Frequency Blade by the end of MGS 2 (how sweet was that corridor full of Tengus?). Oh, MGS 3… it was… what’s the word? Ah, yes, perfect!

    I highly doubt its anything exclusive for 360. It’s just not a good business move to do a 360 exclusive, especially in Japan (MS has no pull there) so I highly doubt the Japanese branch of Xbox would be negotiating any “exclusive” deals. More likely that they were there to see how Kojima’s B-Team is handling their first 360 title. I don’t think its Castlevania related either because Kojima Productions is only over seeing that project, not actually developing it. I would imagine Kojima goes to them to check it out now and then, and everything else is done via conference calls and preview builds sent to Japan.

  • Probably to discuss the presentation of MGS Rising or to see the showing of the latest Rising or Castlevainia trailer to MS. BUT, knowing Microsoft, they’d send somebody to talk about a new project *cough, cough* exclusive? *cough, cough*
